the members of the American Legion

Charter Loot Week
On Wednesday night of last week
the local Salt Workers Union receiv-
ed their charter frbm the American
Federation of Labor, and at that time
the group had 184 members accord-
ing to Secretary B. H. Board.
The Union organization meets on
Friday night of each week in the hall
above Farmer Bros. Cafe.
Officers of the organization are:

Here Tomorrow
The McPhail Grocery, under the
management of Levy McPhail will
open for business Friday, according
to Mr. McPhail.
The business is located in the Rob-

Children Will Sell
Poppies Next Saturady
Saturday, November 4th will be
Poppy Day in Granld Saline, when a
number of school children, working
under the direction of the local unit of
the American Legion Auxiliary, will
sell these artificial flowers. The flow-
ers are made by disabled ex-service
men situated in various hospitals.
The Auxiliary unit purchases the
flowers from the soldiers, and the
profit made from the resale will go
to the local post.

The Grand Saline Orchestra has

At a call issued by the Comptroller
of the Currency, the State National
Bank of Grand Saline is furnishing its
customers and surrounding banks with
a condensed statement of its condi-
tions.
With loans of less than $100j000 and
with deposits more than five times
that figure, the local bank is able to
furnish the best statement in its his-
tory.

The Salt City Company manage-
ment announced this week that as
soon as their present stock of goods

Preston Calvert and V. Poskey re-
turned Tuesday from a deer hunting
trip in the Sacramento Mountains in
New Mexico. Botfi of the ner. suc-
ceeded in getting a deer, and in ad-
dition, Mr. Calvert killed a lynx.

Prior to October 18 there has been
20,826 bales of cotton ginned in Van
Zandt county, according to the report
of J. T. York, County statistician.
This was over 1,000 bales under the
22,107 bales ginned up to the same
date lost year.
The season this fall has been ideal
for gathering of cotton, and had no
plow-up campaign been effected
there would have been much heavier
ginnings to date this year than last.

manner outlined above, Mr. Thomp-
son hopes to be able to distribute the
goods to only those who are in ac-
tual need, and also, even though a
family is in need of some particular
article, not to give them some other
article which they do not need. Mr.
Thompson asks tha) all the school
board members wives and teachece
hold their community meetings at
once and prepare their lists.
Mr. Thompson plans on making no
personal recommendation as to the
needs to a particular family, mJ

received a consignment of Soil 3«r*-
vey Bulletins for Van Zandt County*.
The Bureau of Chemistry ard Soils of
the United States Department of Ag-
riculture made the survey several
years ago.
Tbe information is of vast import-
ance because it gives a detailed de-
scription of the soils of the fagrtia h$
the county. Any farmer with thte aid
of this bulletin can tell the series and
type of the soils on bit particular
farm.
