know that a , Baptist yeonraition has
no authority to ‘pledge" any one ex-
cept the members present. To attempt
sufch a thing would be subversive 7>f
tW fundamental principle of Baptist
freedom. The convention in passing
a'' resolution merely expressed the.
sentiment of thoee present and noth-
ing more. They would not dare at-
tempt the thing that Mr. Millsap
charges. .....■•'7- 1
Let me inform Mr. Millsap -that all
Baptist general bodies are purely voT-'
uritary and for the purpose of counsel
only. They have never sought to
"pledge” or in ' any Way obligate any
one to do anything. To do so would
make themselves the laughing stock
of all "informed1 Baptists everywhere.
N&V the Southern Baptist Convention
did- not "ptedge’-'any ot us to do any-
thing', nor did-they 3¥ek td'do' sd.
