Different types of jokes and
stories were floating around dur-
ing the farm tour trip. One I
overheard went like this:
A fellow was trying to catch
a ride and every time a car
would sto-p the driver asked him
if he was a Democrat or Re-
publican. When he replied
Democrat, he would be booted
out. He decided if he wanted
a ride he would have to change
his tactics. When the next car
stopped, he promptly replied
that he was a Republican.
After riding for a while, the
driver spotted a watermelon
patch beside the road and stop-
ped. “Get out and get us one,”
he said to his hitch-hiking
friend, who did as requested.
“What a deal,” replied the
traveler after returning to the
car with a watermelon. “I’ve
been a Republican for only ten
minutes and already I’m steal-
ing from the farmer.”

Abernathy Weekly Review.
Further evidence of the
changing times can be found
in today’s children. Their
knowledge of the facts of life
has increased tremendously.
For instance, The Lion mag-
azine tells of a father who call-
ed in his six-year-old daughter
and explained that the gardener
had found a lovely little sister
for her early that morning in
the cabbage patch. He asked
her to write her older brother
at boarding school and tell him
the news. Couriosity overtook
the father and he read the let-
ter before the postman picked
it up. It read, “Dear Jack, you
owe me a buck. It’s a girl.”

The following is printed pure-
ly by request and not in any
way reflecting on our mother-
in-law or any mother-in-law or
mule we know:
A farmer’s mule kicked his
mother-in-law to death. A tre-
mendous crowd turned out for
the funeral. The minister com-
mented, “This old lady must
have been mighty popular be-
cause so many people will leave
their work to come to her
funeral.”
“They’re not here for the
funeral,” explained the farmer.
“They’re here to buy the mule.”

A small Hamlin boy, after
hearing that the human race
comes from and returns to dust,
queried his mom the other day
with:
“Mom, is it true that we
carrie from dust and will return
to dust ?”!
“Yes, dear, that’s what the
Bible says,” she replied. “Why?”
“Well, I just looked under my
bed and there’s somebody there,
either coming or going.”
