Catalog Order
Center Opened At
Western Auto Store
She Paducah Western Auto
dealer store, owned by Kelly
Payne, this week announced the
opening of a new catolog order
center as an added service for
customers in this area.
Payne said the new service
is part of a nation-wide cata-
log order program being launch-
ed by Western Auto at this time

through its 438 company stores
and more than 4,000 home-
owned and operated dealer
stores. This will constitute the
largest single group of catalog
order centers in the U. S., he
said.
The catalog, with 320 pages,
lists thousands of items offer- _
ed by Western Auto, Payne
said. Anyone desiring a cata- ’
log can get one at no cost by
coming to the local store.
Payne pointed out that the
new catalog order service en-
ables him to offer literally
thousands of merchandise items
which space would not permit
him to display in his store.
“We know that many of our
customers will welcome the op-
portunity,” he said, “to sit at
home and shop the complete
merchandise lines in our new
Western Auto catalog. There’s
a surprising selection of values
from barbecue grills to vitamin
pills.”
Payne explained that one of
the most important features of
the new service is that prices
shown in the catalog are the. A *1 F\ • , 1
prices the customer will pay, j/lpili U6312H3ll6Q
including postage and delivery 1 °
costs. The customer does not
have to figure weights, freight
rates, or shipping charges, and
then add transportation costs
to the price of the merchandise.
All charges are included in the
listed catalog price.
He also emphasized that
Western Auto will extend its
long-standing policy of satis-
faction or money back to in-
clude all catalog order mer-
chandise.

Resumes Negotiation
A meeting Wednesday morn-
ing between Communications

eral Telephone Company of the
Southwest may lead to a re-
sumption of contract negotia-
tions.
Union officials requested an
indefinite recess October 29 in-
dicating that future talks would
be based on results of GWA
negotiations with General Tele-
phone cf California. An agree-
ment between the California
Company and the CWA was
reached two weeks ago after a
strike that lasted almost four
months.

Cancer Control
Month by Governor
GREETINGS:
The President of the United
States, by direction of an Act
of Congress, has proclaimed
April as Cancer Control Month.
In this year of 1964 more
than 90.000 volunteers will
launch an intensive effort to
lower the tragic toll of lives
claimed by cancer. By telling
their neighbors the facts about
cancer, each member of this
vital force of volunteers has an
opportunity to save a life.
More than 24,000 new cases
of cancer will be diagnosed in
Texas this year. Present knowl-
edge and new skills gained
through research could save one
half of this number, but only
if the victims go to their doc-
tors early.
The collective efforts of the
volunteers of the American Can-
cer Society not only bring need-
ed information to every neigh-
borhood, but make possible the
broad programs of research,
education and service so neces-
sary for the final victory of
cancer.
THEREFORE, I, as Governor
of Texas, do hereby designate
the month of April, 1964, as
CANCER CONTROL MONTH
;n Texas, and urge ail Texans
to observe and participate in
Cancer Control Month through
increased support of the Ameri-
can Cancer Society and by
learning the facts about: cancer
that are vital to personal pro-
