It is encouraging that fresh talk
has again sprung up in connection
with the Brazos River project.
More new gas wells are being
brought in near the city of Strawn.
How lucky this little city to the west
is to have its natural resources. It
is only by natural resources that
real and lasting prosperity can be
brought back to Palo Pinto county.
We are interested in Highway
66, which has been designated as
the American Legion Memorial
Highway, and covers some 600
miles in Texas. Along this high*
wav many parks will be built for
the convenience o f the motorist-
Monuments in these parks will be
built and dedicated in memory of
certain historical battles, or perhaps
an outstanding hero of the World
War. Legion posts in the towns
through which the highway will
pass will furnish and dedicate the
monuments for the parks in their
cities. Park sites are being chosen
for Mineral Wells! through rfeitich
the highway will turn, and there
will probably be several patks in
and near the resort c;
A very optimistic meeting of the
State Highway Commission and
engineers was held at the Baker
Hotel laet Wednesday in Mineral
Wells. State Highway Commission
Chairman Harry Hines stated at
this meeting that $6,000,000 worth
of highway projects hsd been a)'
lotted to West Texas. The main
designation being State Highway
15, running from the Louisiana-
Texas state line east of Marshall
across Texas to the New Mexico
border. Highway allotments in*
teresting Mineral Wells and Palo
Pinto County citizens were those
made for the Weatherford-Mineral
Wells road, a new highway directly
between these two cities. Money
was also set aside for work on
Highway No. 66, between Stephen-
ville and the Palo Pinto County
line.
The new road from Mineral
Wells to Weatherford will lead
directly east out of Mineral Wells,
passing the Country Club and go-
ing straight to Weatherford. Mill-
sap will be entirely off this road.
State Highway No. 15 will lead
through Marshall Longview, Glade-
water, Mineola, Terrell, Dallas, Ft,
Worth, Weatherford, Mineral Wells
Palo Pinto, Metcalf Gap, Caddo,
Breckenridge, Albany, Anson,
Roby, Snyder, Lamesa, Seminole,
and to the New Mexico line. This
road will shorten the distance some
85 miles from Fort Worth to El Paso
and will be known as the Carlsbad
Cavern Road. It will be the main
highway traveled by visitors to the
Centennial in 1936 from West
Texas.
The next open hearing on these
new highway projects will be Mon-
day and Tuesday, August 19 and
20. Bids will be opened on August
19 and read on small state projects.
The Commissioners hope to have
some of the federal projects de-
veloped sufficiently to let by Oct.
and probably in September.
Members of the Commission and
the engineers were guests at a
dinner at the Baker sponsored by
local business men, while in Miner-
al Wells.

Take mildness for one thing — how
docs it measure up for mildness?
Chesterfields arc milder—not flat of
insipid, of course, but with a pleasing
flavor.
Then take taste for another thing —
does it have plenty of taste?
Chesterfields taste better—not strong
but just right.
