THE PADUCAH POST, PADUCAH, TEXAS, THURSDAY, MAY 4, 1961
V Cottle County History
45 Years Ago—May 4, 1916
Delwin, Cottle County, is the
newest born town in the United
States, so far as we know, to
be recognized by the United
States Government. There were
some parties from that com-
munity in town Saturday tak-
ing out the fixtures for a nice
little post office.
Last Friday afternoon while
driving over the city Oscar Bro-
thers lost control of his car
and it ran into a curb on the
sidewalk. One wheel was put
out of commission and the front
axle badly damaged.
Mr. Martin Anderson came in
town Sunday riding in his new
car. Homer was at the steering
wheel.
f School was out at Swearin-
gen Friday. The teacher took
the children down at the bot-
tomless tank and spread din-
ner on the ground.
There were a few flakes of
snow fell in Dumont last Sun-
day.
Miss Crawford gave prizes to
the one getting most headmarks
at Swearingen school. The
prizes were rings and were a-
warded to the follownig: Ira
Marlow, sixth grade; George
Carter, fourth grade; Willie
Carter, third grade; Anne Belle
Bradford, second grade; Vannie
Carter, first grade.
R. E. Lancaster and family
of Dumont left Sunday for Sey-
mour on a visit to his mother,
accompanied by Miss Minnie
Hughes, who will take the train
at Benjamin for Haskell.

Paducah won first place and
the water polo cup in final ses-
sions of the Panhandle district
convention of Firemen Monday
at Burkburnett.
Mrs. J. L. Kennedy of Chil-
dress was honored with a sur-
“Coulda’ used that guy at Normandy."

By MRS. KENNETH TOOLEY
. . . Paducah P-TA President
Tuesday, May 16, the Execu-
tive Board of the Paducah P-TA
will meet to begin plans for the
1961-62 year. At this meeting,
old and new officers and stand-
ing committee chairmen meet
and review the past year and
begin planning for the new
year’s work.
In order that we may have
a concensus of the public
thinking on P-TA programs and
projects, we are sending a
questionaire to parents by stu-
dents and ask that they fill in
the questions and return it to
the school with their child.
In doing this, we are hoping
that the coming year’s program
can be worked up with ideas
and suggestions from the mem-
bership, and in this way we will
feel that we are doing what the
majority of the people want.
These ideas will be studied
and considered by the Execu-
tive Board at the Tuesday meet-
ing and votes will be taken to
see what suggestions can be
used.
We always need new ideas
and for those of you who are
not satisfied with the way
things have been held in the
past, can, in this way, let the
Board know your feelings. There
is no need for a signature on
the paper. We are not con-
cerned with who the person is,
just the ideas and suggestions
he can give us to help us plan
a year that will benefit each
individual in the homes and
schools.
I would especially like to
hear comments concerning the
annual County Fair. There have
been complaints concerning dif-
ferent phases of the program
and I know of no other way to
let our comments be known.
There is a lot of work in plan-
ning this one event and there
are many things to take into
consideration. The date, place,
program, booths, supper and
parade, are all major discuss-
ions in planning the Fair. If
you think it could be changed
in one or all the ways, let us
know your feelings.
Another thing your suggest-
ions could help us with is at-
tendance. What type of pro-
grams would you like to have?
What kind and on what basis
do you think attendance awards
should be given? The purpose
of the award is to stimulate
the desire to attend the regular
meetings. What would stimu-
late you at attend?
P-TA is not a money making
organization, however, in plan-
ning the year’s work, we have
to have a budget and we have
to have money to fulfill our
obligations to the state and
national units. And in the past
we have provided numerous
supplies and fixtures to the
three schools here with money
we have raised. What are your
comments on this? What type
of project would you like to see
undertaken this next year?
How would you suggest we
raise the money?
We do hope you are interest-
ed in our schools and youth
enough to answer these ques-
tions. We want to plan a pro-
gram this year that will bene-
fit you.

to do is call, write or visit your

which to request a statement of
the earnings reported to your
social security account. Fill out
the postcard form, stamp it, and
mail it.
You will receive a statement

It is important that your rec-
