Wooster Baptist Church recently elected new members for its
youth council. Six youths were elected - three for middle
school and three for high school - and they will serve along
with the adult leaders. The youths were elected by their peers
to serve a one-year term. They will serve on the youth council
to help plan activities and ministries for the church’s youths.

Lee College will sen/e as a local
site for the nationwide African-Ameri-
can Read In, an annual Black History
Month project of the National Council
of Teachers of English and the
National Council of Teachers of Eng-,
lish Black Caucus. The event, which
features the reading of works by
African-American writers, will be held
locally at 3 p.m. Monday, at the
Edythe Old Studio on the second
floor of the Lee College library.

Advanced Aromatics, L.P.
of Baytown is currently test-
ing its emergency alarm sys-
tem every Wednesday morn-
ing at 9 a.m.
The testing schedule started
Wednesday, Feb. 3. The
sounding of the siren requires
no response from the commu-
nity. The company wants to
prepare its employees for
emergency response efforts
andnot disturb residents.
The duration of the siren
sounding is less than one
minute.
The company is also plan-
ning to conduct fire extin-
guisher training at its plant
site, The dates of the training
will be Feb. 18 and Feb. 23.
The training will consist of
a controlled fire in a pan of
fuel.
Participants will extinguish
the pan fire immediately.

vent unnecessary community
concern resulting from any
smoke that might be produced
from the Advanced Aromatics
facility.
The company is also notify-
ing any public officials that
would need to be informed
about the training.
Double-edged knives found in student’s possession
A student at Baytown Junior
School was taken into custody
Thursday after being found in
possession of two double-edged,
5-1/2-inch-long daggers.

stolen from Colby
Street
A black 1998 Toyota Four-
Runner valued at $30,000 was
stolen from a residence in the
1800 block of Colby Drive late
Thursday.
Students arrested for
drug offenses
Two 17-year-old students at
Ross Sterling High School were
arrested Thursday on charges of
possession of controlled sub-
stances, manufacture or deliv-
ery of controlled substances and
possession of drug parapherna-
lia.
One of the young men was
arrested for delivery of simulat-
ed controlled substances.
Marijuana seized at
high school
A juvenile student was arrest-
ed Thursday at Robert E. Lee
High School for possessing
about a half an ounce of mari-
juana.
Marijuana, cocaine
seized Thursday
A half an ounce of marijuana
was confiscated and a 21-year-
old Baytown man arrested for
possessing it after being
stopped for a traffic offense
about noon Thursday at North
Alexander and Knowlton.
A search warrant executed in
the 1200 block of Daniel result-
ed in the seizure of a small
amount of what is believed to
be crack cocaine, a crack pipe
and inhalant paraphernalia.
Three adults were arrested.
