Personal care businesses merge
Two Baytown businesses that
specialize in personal care are join-
ing forces to provide everything
i from the services of seven massage
therapists to electrolysis and per-
manent cosmetics.
Shirley Flowers, owner of Bay
Area Electrology and Permanent
Cosmetic Clinic, and Joleen Kass-
man, owner of Baytown Therapeu-
tic Massage Clinic, recently
announced they are merging their
businesses and the services of both
companies will be available at 310
W Sterling Ave.
Kassman, a registered massage
therapist and massage therapy
Kassman
Flowers
instructor, has a staff of seven reg-
istered therapists.
The services offered include
body, foot and hand massage and
salt or seaweed body wraps.
"A new addition, according to
Kassman, is a hot stone massage.
Facials will soon be added to the
list of treatments offered.
Flowers received her certifica-
tion in electrolysis from the state of
Alabama in 1985 and her license
from the state of Louisiana in
1989.
In addition to electrolysis, per-
manent hair removal, Flowers is
now specializing in the SofTap
method of permanent cosmetic col-
oring for lips, brows or eyelining.
Flowers attended certified train-
ing in Utah and is a member of the
Society of Permanent Cosmetic
Professionals.

Advanced Aromatics expands production
Advanced Aromatics LP, Bay-
town producer of high purity naph-
thalene, announced the company
will make and supply tetrahydron-
aphthalene beginning in the third
quarter of2000.
The new product will result from
proprietary technology developed
by Advanced Aromatics.
“We are excited about this new
business and about introducing our
new product,” said Peter Buenz,
president. “This is something
we’ve worked toward since dou-
bling our manufacturing capabili-
ties in 1996.”
“We are already planning a cou-
ple of new molecules to be pro-
duced and supplied to diverse mar-
kets in the years ahead.”
The chemical, tetrahydronaph-
thalene, is a key intermediate in the
manufacture of textile chemicals,
insecticides, heat transfer fluids,
lubricants and a wide variety spe-
cialty chemicals.
The move creates a signifipant
captive demand for Advanced Aro-
matics’ production of the naphtha-
lene from which tetrahydronaph-
thalene is made and will bring the
Baytown plant to capacity.
Advanced Aromatics will leave
the 78C naphthalene business to
focus on its higher valued product
lines.
Leaders in the oil industry
said last week gasoline
prices are expected to soar
to new heights by mid- to
late summer this year, with
cost per gallon possibly hit-
ting $2.
The Family Health
Research Council recently
released new information to
help consumers conserve
gasoline, save money and
even drive gasoline prices
down.
“By following simple steps
to conserve, consumers can
save money on the high cost
of gasoline,” said C. Copp,
researcher with Family
Health Research Council.:
“By conserving, they may,
even be able to reduce
demand and help drive the
prices down.”
These gas- and money-sav-
ing tips can be found online at
