Vehicle burglaries
reported at chemical
plant parking lot
A Baytown man reported that his truck parked in a refinery lot
in the 100 block of Baytown Avenue was burglarized sometime
between 6:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The vehicle received
about $50 damage, and a
stereo system valued at about
$225 is missing, along with
tools valued at about $ 125;

Another vehicle was burglarized in the same period in the'
same location, Baytown police reported. The thief in the second
incident was unsuccessful in attempting to steal a stereo system
out of a 1985 Ford pickup. -
Police amest man for hitting wife, daughter
A 41-year-old Baytown man was arrested for hitting his wife
and pregnant daughter in the 900 block of North Ashbel Street at
about 8 p.m. Tuesday. \
Woman cited for assault in groceiy
A Baytown woman was cited for misdemeanor assault after
grabbing another woman by the neck inside a grocery store in
the 1700 block of Decker Drive about 11 a.m. Tuesday. There
was no mention of the motive for the assault in police reports.
Threat to court cleric reported
A man paying fines at Baytown Municipal Court at about noon
Monday reportedly made a terroristic threat to a court clerk.
Jeweliy stolen
Burglary of a habitation in the 2400 block of East James
Avenue netted the thief $1,550 in jewelry, about $719 in cash,
and $10 in “negotiable instruments,” Baytown police reported.
Entry to the building was made through a back door.
Faucets stolen
A Baytown resident reported that two faucets were stolen from
his mother’s rent house in the 5200 block of East Road sometime
between Friday and Tuesday. The faucets have a value of about
$98. Police indicate they have suspects in the case.
Purse left, now missing
A Baytown woman reported she left her purse in a grocery
basket in the 4900 block of Garth Road Tuesday morning and
drove off without getting the bag. When she returned, the purse
and its contents were gone.
Car buiglaiy reported
A burglar forced entry into a green compact car in the 700
block of Denby late Monday or early Tuesday. Missing from the
car are an amplifier, speakers, compact disc player, and a box of
compact discs. Total value of the missing items is $1,190.
Small amount of cocaine seized
Less than a gram of crack cocaine was seized after a traffic
stop in the 500 block of North Third Street Tuesday morning.
Officer Rene Hinojosa found the cocaine in the vehicle’s seat
during the traffic stop. The 19-year-old construction worker was
charged with possession of crack cocaine and has his case filed
in state district court.
Tools stolen
A garage in the 500 block of East Gulf Avenue was burglar-
ized sometime between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morn-
ing. Missing are power tools and lawn equipment valued at more
than $350. V
Truck stolen

A $27,000 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck was stolen from the
6900 block of Garth Road. The theft was reported about 9 p.m.
Tuesday.

In the 24-hour period ending at about 6 a.m. Wednesday, Bay-
town police responded to seven alarms, three assaults, one report
of motor vehicle theft, two burglaries, one report of criminal
mischief, 11 disturbances, one sexual assault and two thefts.
Police responded also to two major motor vehicle accidents and
three minor accidents.

| Randy Rhodes as Police Offi-
cer of the Month for July.
Rhodes began his career
with the Baytown Police
Department in 1983 as a
patrol officer.
He has since advanced to
the detective division and is a
truancy officer working for
Goose Creek CISD.
Rhodes holds an Advanced
Peace Officer license and has
participated on the SWAT
team.

Rocky Conner, Jr. has enlisted
in the United States Air Force,
according to Staff Sgt. Solomon
Hawkins, Air Force recruiter in
Baytown.
Upon successfully completing
the Air Force’s six-week basic
military training course at Lack-
land Air Force Base near San
Antonio, he is scheduled to
receive technical training as a
tactical aircraft maintenance
apprentice.
Conner, a 1999 graduate of
Barbers Hill High School, will
be earning credits toward an
associate degree in applied sci-
ences through the Community
College of the Air Force while
attending basic and technical
training schools.
He is the son of Rocky Con-
ner Sr. and Ruby Ayala, both of
Baytown.
