also is survived by his “adopted son”
and family, Rogers and Lisa Simmons
of Highlands and Alecia Simmons,
Kristi Simmons and Janell Simmons.
Douglas was preceded in death by
his parents Jeff and Betty Adams, son

Douglas “Gate” Adams
Douglas “Gote” Adams, 78 and a
65-year resident of Highlands, died
Friday, Sept. 1,2000, at his home.
He was bom Sept. 11,1921 in Fer-
ris, Texas. He retired from Exxon
Chemical after 37 years of service.
He was a deacon at First Baptist
Church in Highlands, and a veteran
of World War II where he served in
the Marine Corps. He was a member
of Sampson masonic Lodge High-
lands and the Men’s Senior Softball
Association of Baytown. He coached
Highlands Little League for 14 years.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m.
on Sunday, Sept. 3,2000.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
on Monday, Sept. 4, 2000 at First
Baptist Church in Highlands with the
Rev. Tim Edwards officiating. Burial
will take place at Memory Gardens
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be
Leonard Twardowski, Forrest Nall,
"^Dane Harlien, Philip DePrang, Ray
Mullins, Snell Bennett.
Douglas is survived by his spouse
Jackie Adams of Highlands, son and
one sister.

Abrams, Matt Bridgefarmer, Jerry
Len Swearingen, Dean Lacy and
Phillip Lacy. Honorary pallbearers
will be Todd Lacy, Josh Lingle, Dale
Owens, Rex Thain, the men of Trini-
ty Baptist Church in Baytown and the
men of Baytown Gadabouts.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9:30
pm, Sunday, Sept 3, and noon to 9:30
p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at the Pace-
Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Clifford “Butch” Jones Eldon K. Livingston
Clifford “Butch” Jones, 57, of
Dayton, passed away Saturday, Sept.
1,2000, at the M.D. Anderson Hospi-
tal in Houston. He was a native of
Liberty, longtime resident of the Day-
ton-Liberty Area, was a retired ma-
chinist from the Exxon Baytown Re-
finery, a very active member of the
Trinity Baptist Church in Baytown
and the Baytown Gadabouts, had
lived in Baytown for 11 years before
moving to Dayton and also was a
U.S. Air Force veteran.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tties-
day, Sept. 5, at the Pace-Stancil Fu-
neral Home Chapel in Dayton with
the Rev. Don Peirson officiating. Bur-
ial will follow at the Palms Memorial
Park in Dayton under the direction of
Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel.
Jones is survived by his wife Debo-
rah Jones of Dayton; sons, Clifford
Dane Jones and wife Lisa of Wal-

Eldon K Livingston, 85, bom Dec.
31,1915, passed away Friday, Sept 1,
2000 in a local nursing home. Mr.
Livingston had lived in Baytown for
two years after relocating from his
farm in Rolla, Missouri. He made
many friends at his new home.
He is survived by his nephew and
niece, Edward L and Carolyn Hilde-
brand, and their sons Robert Warren
and Edward L Hildebrand III of Bay-
town, Texas; niece Catherine Hilde-
brand of Dallas, Texas; and a brother
John H. Livingston of Shreveport,
Louisiana; and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Eldon was preceded in death by his
sister Marjorie Hildebrand and his
brothers Herbert Livingston and Ker-
mit Livingston.
Visitation will be at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept 6,2000, at Null Fu-
neral Home in Rolla, Missouri. Fu-
neral services will be at Rolla Presby-
terian Cemetery in Elk Prairie, Mis-
souri on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at
10 a.m., under the direction of
Navarre Funeral Home.
Eldon was a hard-working rancher
and farmer of great integrity. He de-
voted his life to the care of his mother.
He had a keen interest in political is-
sues and was an active member of
Rolla Lodge No. 213, A.F. & A.M.,
and the Rolla Presbyterian Church.
Eldon was an early conservationist In
the 1940s, he volunteered the Liv-
ingston farm to be used as a base
from which to re-establish the wild
turkey back into Missouri. Wild
turkey were trapped in Texas and tak-
en to his farm where they flourished
under his management. Eventually
hundreds of turkey were recaptured
and released throughout Missouri. El-
don loved family reunions and en-
joyed get-togethers, and he was al-
ways quick with a smile and kind
word We will miss him.

Young said he is in the process
of creating a sign that explains the
significance of the plaque to go
along with it in the commons area.
“I think it’s very important that
these students know about the past
because what those boys died for
allows these kids to go to school,”
he said. “It’s called freedom.”
