One of The most delightful hos-
pitalities of the week was the
party given by Mrs. W.. C. Swain
Wednesday afternoon when she
was hostess to the H. E. 0. Bridge
Club and five guests.
Bluebells and pink cannas ac-
cented the color scheme which wfts
cleverly repeated in the tallies,
score ?ads land prize wrappings.
Of the four tables of contes-
tants, Mrs. R. W. Warns was high'
scorer for the club and Mrs. Jerry
Ulch was second high. Mrs. R, L.
Carter was high for guests. Each
was presented with a lovely prize
wrapped in pink tissua paper and
tied with white and blue ribbons.
Peach surprise topped with ice
cream, and coffee were served.
Guests were Mesdames H. H.
Echols, Jr., Henry Cathriner, R. L.
Garter, John Gaillard and W. T.
Shepherd.
Next week this club will meet
with Mrs. J. D. Spear at her home

Because he went to the aid of an >
injured bird, Foster Lewis, Evans-
ville, Ind., business mah, is in the
toils of the law. Finding a red
bird with a broken leg in his back
yard, Lewis mended the fractured
member. The bird become at-
tached to its benefactor and fol-
lowed him around. Edwin Aleon,
Evansville deputy game warden,
obtained a warrant charging
l^wis with illegal possession of a
red bird. Lewis pleaded guilty
anti was bound over to the fed-
eral grand jury under $250 bond.
The game warden took the bird
with him over Lewi*^ protests.
