Country Hoedown
The Baytown Chamber of Com-
merce has scheduled the annual
fund-raising Country Hoedown with
"A Touch of Glitz" for 7 p.m. to mid-
night Friday, Sept. 10 at Sylvan
Beach Pavilion at La Porte. Tickets
are on sale for $25 each at the cham-
ber office, 4721 Garth Fid., Suite C,
through Hoedown committee mem-
bers and ambassadors. The event
will feature a dinner, a silent and live
auction and dancing to music provid-
ed by rising country star Carl Man-
chaca. Also, auction items are being
sought by the chamber. For more

The Ross S. Sterling High School
cheerleaders are having a cheer clin-

Fund-raising walk for diabetes
to be held Sept. 19 at Bayland
America’s Walk for Diabetes
will be held in Baytown Sunday,
Sept. 19, at Bayland Park. The
event, which is sponsored locally
by the Baytown chapter of the
American Diabetes Association,
will begin with check-in at 7 a.m.
The community is invited to
participate in the walk, which
includes distances of 5K (3.1
miles) and 10K (6.2 miles), by
recruiting sponsors. The goal is
that each walker raises $100
toward the prevention and cure of
diabetes. Walkers also may form
teams to increase the fun and con-
tribution.
Ninfa’s Restaurant will provide
breakfast for all participants.
Those who turn in $100 or more
in donations at sign-in will
receive an official Walk T-shirt.
The American Diabetes Associ-
ation’s mission is to prevent and
cure diabetes and improve the
lives of all those affected by the
disease. More than a million vol-
unteers across the country are
involved in similar projects to
raise funds for research and edu-
cation.
