Olajuwon chasing another title with new teammates
HOUSTON (AP). — He was
one-half of the Houston Rockets’
Twin Towers with Ralph Sampson
in the 1980s and the leader of two
NBA championship teams in the
1990s.
Hakeem Olajuwon, who took
his college team to thrpe Final
Four appearances, is the lone con-
stant to the Rockets’ success over
the past two decades.
After an injury-plagued year last
season, Olajuwon is healthy now.
So is Charles Barkley. With the
addition of Scottie Pippen and
three promising rookies, the Rock-
ets believe they’re poised to make
a run at a third NBA champi-
onship this decade.
This time, Olajuwon won’t have
to carry all the load.
“The system that is in place is
the one we originally built around
Hakeem,” said executive vice pres-
ident Carroll Dawson. “The sys-
tem has been tweaked from time to
time to fit the talent available.
“Used to be, if we had to score,
everyone in the building knew that
it was going to Hakeem. Now
we’ve got a lot of places we can
go. All the great ones want the ball
when it comes to making the big
shot, but at his age, Hakeem just
wants to win.”
Olajuwon is the only remaining
player who performed on both of
the Rockets’ NBA title teams in
1994 and 1995. Reserve Matt
Bullard was a member of the 1994
title team.
Olajuwon still has the signature
“Dream Shake” fadeaway shot,
the soft-touch 17-foot jumper, the
jump hook and the spin move to
the basket that fans have grown to
expect.
Arthroscopic knee surgery last
season cost Olajuwon 33 games
and took some of the snap off the
Dream Shake. He can’t soar quite
like he used to, but there’s plenty
left in Olajuwon’s 36-year-old
body.
“My game has been changing
naturally after the way my knee
progressed last year,” Olajuwon
said. “I am changing naturally,
compensating and trying to stay
effective.”
Teammates have also noticed the
change in Olajuwon’s game.
“As Dream gets older, a lot of
those quick and powerful things
that he did aren’t going to be there
all the time,” said guard-forward
Eddie Johnson. “You have to
change. Look at (Michael) Jordan.
Jordan wasn’t the dunking
machine in the end that he was
earlier in his career. Karl Malone
too. ”
The Rockets plan to blend the
multitalented Pippen into the mix,
and they also have high expecta-
tions for their three rookies,
Michael Dickerson, Bryce Drew
and Cuttino Mobley.

What shape diamond is setting the trend tor new brides?
: For 15 years, I have sold primarily round cut stones.
■ However, the past year changed that. When purchasing
diamonds for engagement rings, people have
equally asked for either shapes as well, looking
for something out of the ordinary. Besides the

What if I move around lot?
I might not be living here next year.
: The cemetery industry long ago recognized the mobility
of our society, and initiated several exchange pro-
grams. If you should move to an area more than
75 miles from your present address, and decide
that you want cemetery property there, all you
ahve to do is contact a cemetery near your new
location that is a member of the exchange pro-
gram and request a transfer.

|T\: Why is it that when I bought a new car and took it back to the dealer for repairs
they continually told me that they could not find any problem? Out of frustration, I
I took my car to you and you found the problem and fixed it. Why didn't they? I know I have
I to pay for the repairs even If it is warranty if I take it to an independent shop-but it is worth
| it to have my car repaired right.
j| : There are several reasons this happens. First, many techni-
cians or mechanics are not trained In diagnosing problems.
Their abilities stop at changing parts. Second, the mechanic is an
I y I employee of the dealership and he can only do what the dealer allows

\y Jjgjj what I suggest is, that if the dealer can not find your problem and
your independent shop can, have your Independent shop check your
car out and furnish you with all the documentation needed to help you
explain the problem to the dealership. Sometimes a printout from a

The Problem with Sugar?
Like many other foods, the problem with sugar Is not so much the number of
k calories It contains, but the reaction It causes In your body. When you eat sugar,

Putting a Little Personality into Your Home
It is the accessory; more than any other element, that reflects
I lifestyle. Objects in our home can bring to mind a memorable

More people find accessorizing to be a per-
plexing task. For a designer, composition is a
natural skill. For him or her it is almost second
nature to arrange the much loved objects or col-

When is the best time to list a house for sale?
As soon as you decide to sell it.
If you want to get the best price for your house,
the key is to give yourself as much time as pos-
sible to sell it. More time means more potential
buyers will probably see the house. This should
result in more offers; it also gives you time to
consider more options if the market is slow; if
initial interest is low; or if you are reaching out
for "top dollar".

AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING
! What are the effect of overcharging an air conditioning system with
freon?
First of all, overcharging the system will effect the efficiency ol the sys-
tems operation. Overcharging also causes excessive sweating ol the
equipment and duct work causing a duct system, full ol mold & mildew.
Overcharging also causes high humidity levels in the condition
ol area, not only causing mold & mildew in the home, but pos-
sibly causing extensive damage to the structure of the home.
Your home will leel uncomfortable due to the high humidity lev-
els in the home. Overcharging can also slug the compressor
causing compressor failure, a very costly repair. Therefore,
there is more to changing an air conditioning system than just
shooting a little freon in. Be sure and have a professional who
is properly trained in refrigerant and air conditioning equip-
ment change your system to assure your system is operating at its optimum effi-
icy.

SWIMMING POOLS
* l am preparing to landscape around my pool: Is there any advice you can give
me?
there are several factors pool owners should consider when choosing trees and other plants
for landscaping in order to reduce maintenance and to protect their investment.
Design lawns and floor beds so they slope away from the pool, if possible, install a low, walerlighl
edging or wall on the poolside of the lawn or planting area. This will help keep
debris from entering the pool and to protect their investment.
• Don’t plant trees too close to the pool. Trees provide a scenic background to
any pool area, but a tree loo close to a pool can result in a skimmer clogged
with (alien leaves, leading to poor circulation and the growth of algae and bac-;
teria Also, their roof systems can Invade plumbing lines and damage Ihe
pool's decking. ........-J. .■...........-•
• Place plants in raised planters or moveable pots. Wafer run-off from plants
can clog Ihe pool's filtration system and disturb the pool's chemical balance:-
• Try not to mow or water the. lawn immediately before using the pool. Wet or
loose grass clippings are easier lor swimmers to track into the pool.
• Keep lawn and plantlerlilizers oul ol Ihe pool. Fertilizer will inhibit Ihe abil-
ity ol the chemical product to treat the pool and even accelerate algae growth.
By following these simple guidelines the chances ol having problems with
your pool will be greatly reduced. Of course, despite (he most well-lhought-oul planl placemen! and
selecfion, some debris is still likely to enter your pool. Don’t panic. Almost any pool problem can be
solved with Ihe proper care,

EXTERMINATOR
How much damage can termites do and how fast do they do it?
Damage done by termites can be moderate to severe, but it termites are present Ibere Is dam-
age. TIte only way to determine the amount of damage done by termites is to physically take apart
Ihe area infested. Sheetrock or paneling may need to be removed. Tile in bathrooms or kitchens perhaps
even flooring or lloor coverings are some ol the things that may need to be removed (this is just an
example ol some things depending on where they are located). The speed at
which they work is dependent upon the type (species) of termite, Drywoods are
more difficult to treat but their cdtonles are smaller and more confined. Their
damage is Slower 10 progress Subterranean (Reticubitermes) come from the
ground and the colonies can be massive depending on the age ol the colony.
There can be more than one coiony. The Formosan (coptotermes) also comes
from the ground and their colonies seem to be larger and more destructive. Their
Ireatmenl can be more difficult because ol their ability to maintaining moisture
needs without ground contact, the Formosan colonies we are told are even larg-
er that the subterranean All three could be on Ihe same house at one time. It
is very important to watch tor signs ot termites damage.

Can my eyes be damaged by Ultraviolet Rays?
YES!!! Studies show the the earth’s atmosphere only absorbs par! UV Rays. UVB and UVA
. Rays are quite harmful to the eye. When left unguarded, these harmful rays penetrate to some
| extent the eye's cornea, lens and retina causing irreversible damage.
What most Individuals may not know, is sunglasses whether plain or prescrip-
tion, may not Otter adequate UV radiation protection The truth Is, by. darkening
your lenses to eliminate glare, Ihe pupil ol the eye dilates and allows more
L-harmlul UV radiation in the eye. UV radiation is not like the light we see. tt is
invisible electro-magnetic properties radiated by the sun ot from fluorescent
lights, computer screens or welding areas. How do you escape these harmful
rays? Well, practically ...you can not.AII activities outdoors require protection
as well as in areas like sports arenas. Some medication may cause eyes to
become more sensitive to UV radiation. Our responsibility lo ourselves and our
children Is to protect our eyes.
What is the solution? All current and tuture lenses need UV protection. It you
do not require prescription lenses, UV protective sunwear is highly recom-
mended. Placing UV blocking coatings on your glasses does not darken the
I lenses. II you do wear dark lenses lor sensitivity or glare, you should have UV protection as well. The
