Gladewater’s 1952 Bears have
compiled one of the most impres-
sive records in the history of the
high school.
In nine games played to date the
Bears have amassed a total of
2.783 yards— 1,628 rushing and
1.155 passing. The Bears have
scored 187 points in season play,
and held opponents to 80 points.
Eighty-seven of tire total points
were scored against non-confer-
ence foes and 39 given to oppon-
ents, while 100 were scored on dis-
trict teams and the Bears gave up
40 points to district opixrnents.
Tire Bears have scored tire most
points, 41, on Nacogdoches and the
most points the team has allowed
were 26 to the Marshall Mavericks.
In five games — Nacogdoches,
Texarkana, Henderson, Denton
and Cleburne—the Bears rolled up
more than 350 yards in the air
and on the ground against each
team. The Bears made more yard-
age, 230, in the air against Tex-
arkana, and more on the ground.

Gladewater’s all-state bid, Neal
Williams, has personally scored
eight touchdowns, passed for ten,
and kicked 16 extra points, figur-
ing in 124 points of Gladewater’s
187 scored. His punting average is
27.55 for 38 times and a total of
1.047 yards. He has passed for
1.047 yards and ran for 760 yards,
bringing his total to 1,807.
Th# Bears still sport the best
season record with seven wins and
two losses. Texarkana is second
with six victories and three set-
backs. Kilgore is the full season’s
scoring leader with 211 points. The
Bears lead the field in conference
points scored with 100, and are
also the top defense leaders in both
non-conference and district play.
The Bears gave up 40 points to
non-conference teams and 40 to
district opponents.

from Cherokee and Daingerfield
during this same period were run-
ning about the same . . . no ducks
flying.
Down on Black lake over the
week end there must have been
more dtlcks than there was in this
part of eastern Texas. TILLIE
ROBERTS and I were there cast-
ing and saw quite a few Mallards.
The hunters in the blinds didn’t
seem to have much of a chance
with them because of the idiots
that were hunting them in boats
with their motors running wide
open. Wo could see a flight rise
from the water and the fire works
would take place and ducks begin
to fall . . . The bass were hitting
very slow there while the white
perch were biting rather good.
HUMBERT HUNTER came in
town yesterday with one of the
nicest deer that has been brought
into Gladewnter this year. The
deer was killed out close to El
Paso and was a 12 pointer.

and tho kind that will keep you
