Questions

Answers
Q. I get a social security
check each month, but have
continued to farm on a small
scale. Recently I got a disaster
relief loan from the government
and need to know if this should
be counted as income in
determining my self-employ
ment earnings for the year.
A. If the loan has to be
repaid ft' does not count as
income for ^elf-employment
reporting, but if the loan is
cancelled or partially cancelled,
the portion which does not have
to be repaid is counted the
same as income from produce
sold and is income in figuring
your earnings. If this causes net
earnings to exceed 12,100 for
the year, it would result in the
loss of at leaat part of your
social security checks.
Q. I'm 18 and get social
security checks because my
mother gets disability pay-
ments. Since I will finish high
school this spring I understand
that payments will continue if I
go on to college full time. Since
I will need to work part time,
can you tell me what social
security considers as full time
attendance.
A. The Social Security
Administration accepts the
standard set up by the school.
In most Texas colleges, this
means at least 12 semester
hours of credit, and at least four
courses of 3-hour credit each.
