Representative Thomas left
Washington for Texas by . train
Friday night and expects to con-
fer with Houston Chamber of
Commerce representatives and lo-
cal authorities on the project Mon-
day. He has been requested by
Washington officials to report on
the local situation not later than
Monday night.
No Foundation
At first there was considerable
objection to the locating of a ship-
yard here on the ground that too
much time would be required to
assemble the necessary skilled )a-
ixir there. But representatives of
the Houston Chamber of Com-
merce, Representative Thomas and
others interested in the project
tueceeded in proving that the ob-
jection had little foundation in
fart and that the advanced in-
dustrial development of the Hous-
ton area could quickly command
the necessary skilled labof ;fori
building merchant ships.
Several prominent officials ad-
mitted to Thomas Friday that they j
now regard Houston as the ideal
location for the shipyard.

KERRVILLE. Dec. 21. (C.Pi _ A
belief that waters in Texas
streams are too warm for success-
ful stocking of trout will be put
to a test in a spring creek wind-
ing through the Kerrville hills.
Dick Friedrich, rancher and
sportsman, has imported more
than 7.OO0 trout from a Salida,
Colorado, hatchcVy 'and .turned
them ioose in a crystal clear
stream bubbling- from a granite
formation on his ranch at Bear
Creek.
Friedrich thinks the stream is
cold etkAtgb, for the trout to 3
spawn, but if it is not,.he plans
to “refrigerate" the stream. j
And that failing, he plans to
move the fish to a government !
hatchery where die has asked per- j
mission to install a chilling plant
