CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS
The Christmas season will be
celebrated by Highlands churches

The Baptist church will present
a Cantata, "Come Ye To Bethle-
hem,'' at 7:15 pin. Sunday with a

Special numbers will be vocal so-

Tony Treat. Miss Evelyn Ed-
monds is pianist. Assisting Mrs.
Harris are the following commit-
tee chairmen: assignment, Mrs. W.
W. Spivey: costumes, Mrs. Wilson
Manahan; stage and decorations,
Mrs. I G. Treat.
Rev. O. F. Keefer, pastor, asked
those who attend to bring gifts
of food, clothing, or money to be
placed about the trev? to be dis-
tributed to needy families. __
The program committee of the
Methodist church has arrange^ a
"White Christmas" service depict-
ing the "Manger Scene” and
"White Gifts To The King" pa-
geant with an illuminated cross
and star reflecting their rays of
light upon the manger. This will
be at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The hid-
den choir will sing hymns of
Christmas theme as the angels
watch over the manger. The mem-
bership will then file to the altar
with gifts of silver which will be
used as the annual love offering
for the children in the Methodist
home in Waco. After this the
tree committee will have charge, „
then the benediction. Rev. F. L.
McGown is pastor.
The Assembly of God church
will present a pageant, "The
Heart of Christmas" at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, directed by Rev. E. L.
Mason, pastor. Fifteen girls dres-
sed as angels in the pageant will
sing, and the pianist is Mrs. Dor-
othy Harrison ,of Goose Creek.
Besides the' pageant, each class in
the Sunday school will present a
short program, directed by Mrs.
C. D. Simmons.
The public is cordially invited
to all of these programs.
NEW OFFICERS OF
GARDEN CLUB INSTALLED
Mrs. Clifton Adams closed two
years service as president of the
Highlands Garden Club at the De-
cember minting In the home of
Mrs. A. Clbulka, when the new
officers were Installed.
Besides the regular study of
flowers and gardrns conducted by
the club, civic project* accomp-
lished during Mrs Adam's admin-
istration Include securing a re-
duction tn gas rate* and the In-
stallation of a modern dial tele-
phone system by the Southwest-
ern Associated Telephone Oo.
New officer* are Mra. R. A.
Hooper, president, Mrs. M. O. Mc-
Donald. Mr* 4>. O. Mayfield and
Mr*. J. C. Schmndl. vlo* presi-
dent*, Mrs. A. Bryan, treasurer.

Tt." club voted to pay a $5
membership fee to join the Texas
Roadside Council, and at the re-
quest of the Wooster and Old
River Terrace Garden Clubs, com-
mittees were named to Judge the
Christmas decoration contests in
these communities.

In the social hour following the
meeting, a group of visitors from
the Tri-Cities Music Study club
led the group in singing Christmas
carols. Miss Alma Cherry also
sang Brahm’s “Lullaby," and Mo-
zarts “Allcluja,” accompanied by
Mrs. J. R. Cone. Mrs. W'atter
Barr Killough played a number
of selections on the piano. Gifts
were exchanged from the decor-
ated trev and the clubs gift to Mrs.
Adams was a silk house coat.
Mrs. Hooper and Mrs. Adams
presided at the laid refreshment
table which was centered with an
arrangement of youpon, fruit, and
nuts. Refreshments were tea, cof-
fee, open faced sandwiches, cook-
ies. and candy. There were 40
present, including a new member,
Mrs. V. R. Allsup.

at the Christmas party of the
Highlands Baptist. W. M. L’. As-

CHRISTMAS PARTY
Mrs. F. P. Noland entertained
with a Christmas party compli-
menting the Junior girls of the
Highlands Methodist church. As-
sisting the hostess were Mrs. C.
D. Thompson and Mrs. Edna Mon-
estery.
After an evening of games gifts
were exchanged and refreshments
of cookies, cocoa and candy were
served and the group carried a
gift Christmas basket to an elder-
ly friend of the class and sang a
number of carols.
