The Kermit Yellow Jacket points each and Mary Day
varsity volleyball team is 3-1
on their season as they have
won two and lost one after
their opening victory. The
Jackets lost to Denver City
but defeated Midland Lee, Ft.
Stockton and Wink.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, the
Jackets took on the Denver
City Mustangs and lost by the
scores of 15-10, 7-15, 11-15.
The Jackets came out fast
as they won the first game
15-10. Leslie Biddle led
Jacket scorers with five
points during the game while
Dawn Edwards had four,
Becky Hix had three, Donna
Parker had two and Staci
Williams added one point.
The second game saw
Oralia Lujan score five points,
but to no avail as the Jackets
lost 7-15. Edwards also
scored two points for the
Jackets during the game.
Parker scored six points
during the third game, but
again the Jackets lost. This
time by the score of 11-15.
Following Parker were Biddle
and Hix with two each and
Williams had one.
“We just never could get
things rolling again after the
first game,” said Coach Lois
Ann McKenzie.
On Monday, Sept. 11, the
Jackets soundly defeated the
Ft. Stockton Panthers 11-7
and 15-9.
Staci Williams and Dawn
Edwards led Jacket scorers in
the first game with three
points apiece as the Jackets
rolled over Ft. Stockton 11-7.
Following Williams and
Edwards were Leslie Biddle
and Becky Hix with two

added one.
The second game wasn’t
really much of a contest as
Kermit sent the Panthers
packing with a 15-9 victory.
Donna Parker, O’Lisa Muniz
and Edwards had three points
apiece to lead Jacket scorers
during the second game.
Other scorers for Kermit were
Menet Mays with two, Biddle
with two, Day with one and
Oralia Lujan with one.
Coach McKenzie was
pleased with the
performance. “Staci Williams,
Leslie Biddle, and Becky Hix
had very good performances
along with Dawn Edwards
and Mary Day. The team is
progressing very nicely.”
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the
Jackets downed the Wink
Wildcats 15-8 and 12-10.
The first game was all
Kermit’s as they piled up a
15-8 victory. Dawn Edwards
led Jacket scorers during the
game with seven points while
O’Lisa Muniz had three.
Becky Hix had two points
and Mary Day, Leslie Biddle
and Donna Parker scored one
each.
The second game was
much closer, but the Jackets
still came out on top 12-10.
Menet Mays led scorers this
time with five points while
Biddle, Muniz and Staci
Williams scored two each.
Parker also added one for the
Jackets.
“Dawn Edwards had a
good game at the net as did
Becky Hix and Staci
Williams,” said Coach
McKenzie, “Donna Parker is
coming along very well also.
This weekend tournament
should help me decide on a
few things as far as the line
up goes.”
The Jackets will play in the
Monahans Tournament this
weekend. Their first game of
the tourney will be against
Odessa High and will begin at
12 noon Sat.

Have no fear I is here it’s me it’s me it’s Amos B. That’s
right sports fan it’s your favorite prognasticator bringing you
the news before it happens in the area of high school
football.
It seems as though the News people were a little bit on th
worried side last week and jumped the gun on us by
substituting some unknown impersonator to write the Amos
Fuddle column. Well I’m here to tell you that it weren’t me.
That’s right I won’t take any responibility for that mess that
they ran last week.
I must apologize though, because we were a bit slow
getting back to town this year and might have given them aM
bit of a scare. But we’re back now and rip-rarin’ to go witlv
the best in football pickin’.
If nothin’ else has made you happy during the past week,
the Yellow Jackets performance against the Alpine Bucks
should have been the highlight of your week. They reallv
looked impressive. No doubt they’ve still got a long ways to
go before they’re playoff material, but I believe they’ll get^
there before the district play gets underway. P
Kermit’s defense was perhaps the brightest spot of all in
the way that they held the game in check until the offense
could get things rolling. But all in all we’re well pleased.
So with all the frills out of the way we’ll start with this
weeks picks.
KERMIT 24-DENVER CITY 10 The Mustangs are in for®
they’re second defeat in as many weeks as they get a real
wippin’ at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. It looks as
though Coach Overton has some real depth this year in
almost every position. Look for the Jackets to go far in this
years playoffs.
SONORA 14iBALLINGER 6 Sonora got off to a rather slow
start last week ending up in a tie, but this week they shouldJi
get things in order. This team will probably give the Jackets^
their best competition in the race for the District 7-2A
crown.
OZONA 14-JUNCTION 3 This type of preparation will
always be a mystery to me, but it looks as though Ozona is
back to picking on the weaker schools again this year. They
tried this last week and come out on the short end of the A,
stick. They should do better this time around. ^
WINK 24-SANDS 6 The Wildcats scored the most points
they have scored in any one game in the past 17 years Friday
night against Dell City and they kind, of like it. Look for
them to be the surprise of this district. They should win
hands down.
SNYDER 17-MONAHANS 7 The Loboes were lucky last,
week when they eeked out their win over Seminole, but they if®1
won’t be so lucky this time around. The Tigers have too
much power for the unusually weak Monahans team.
FT. STOCKTON 42-ALPINE 7 The Panthers just keep
pouring it on as they roll over the Bucks. This is a new role
for the Ft. Stockton team and they’re taking full advantage
of it. They really look good. „
PECOS 21-CARLSBAD 7 The Eagles will more than likely be#
the only team that can stop the Stockton Panthers in their
pursuit of a district crown and they’re doing their best to
get ready for the onslaught. The Cavemen should be no match
for the quick and aggresive Eagles.
PERMIAN 31 -AMARILLO 7 This is almost a sure bet as the
Panthers want real bad to get back in the thick of things in
their district crown race. The Permina team is always strongm
and should really be tough this year. Amarillo just doesn’t™
have what it takes.
BROWNWOOD 30-SEMINOLE 10 The Indians will bite off
more than they can chew in this weeks encounters of the
worst kind. Seminole lost a close one to the Loboes last
week. They will fair much worse in this tourney.
AlNDREWS 17-LAMESA 3 Andrews lost most of their big^
guns in the graduation game , but should still have enough to ^
handle a very weak Lamesa squad. The Tors got demolished
last Friday and might as well get used to the feeling. It’s
going to be a long season.
