Fire Prevention
In Girls' Dorm
Is Emphasized
Howard Payne Hall is now ready
for the Fire Chief to come and
start his fire drills. The fire ex-
its are now ready for use. Miss
Dorothy Cox Dean of Women said
that the fire exits and escapes
comply with all the regulations of
Browmvood Fire Dept. Miss Cox
said that the desire of Howard
Payne is to comply with whatever
rules that are necessary to save
every girl in ease of a fire.
Eaeli exit has a light that burns
continually and all of the doors
to the rooms that lead to a fire
escape have flourinetine glass.
There is also an ax beside each
escape door with which to break
the glass so it will bo possible to
reach inside and unlatch the door in
case there is no girl in the room at
the time of the fire.
The Dean of Women drew a plan
ol the building on Tuesday of last
week and sent to the fire chief
so he could work out a routine for
fire drill. As soon as the routine
is worked out and that will be
very soon the girls will began to
nine fire driib.
The rason for this is not that we
expect a fire but Howard Payne
is preparing for anything that
would endanger a student's life.
So girls when you hear the horn
blow go to your respective sta-
tions nnd be ready for the worst.
In case any of the students other
than the prescribed personnel nt

Student Opinion
FIRE OR CLASS?
Fire! That's waht most HPC's
student thought the first time the

alarmed . This siren was installed
to get some of the sleepy students
to class on time.
What do you think?
R. S. (Smoky) Arceneaux It'll
take more than that to get me up.
JOYCLIN CALLOWAY It's
really a swell idea.
RED WHITE Noisy! !
BILL CLARK Siren?? Gee

MARVEL KENDALL It's a
good idea you can hear it all over
the campus.
AL LANGFORD I thought it
was a fire the first time I heard it.
UENNIE WILLIAMS Sirenc!
Well I was wcodcring what that
was.
JO ARVIN I feel like a fire-
man now.
BUBBA KANAK Reminds me
of condition red.
NORMA LEE KISSEE Hard to

EDDIE HAM They can't keep
us in class too long now.
BILL SCOGGINS Sounds like

MEDITATION
"Freely ye have received freely
give". Matthew 10:8. In a mater-
tin let in uwii'lrl n enfinf ni'n QllpVl l c I
i "'- '"4"' " "
this seems out of place. Howevo it i
is the real basis for the maximum
of happiness in life. The Christian
principles do not include selfish-
ness. Eevey other religion is ego-
centric but Christianity is Christ-
ocentric. Every phase of our liv-
ing should be centered in Christ.
Giving does not stop with giving
money. Real giving includes giv-
ing of ourselves. Giving isn't lim-
ited to Sunday but should go on
all through the week. Giving
shouldn't be done just in church but
should be giving freely of our time
talents and personality to our
fellow man
What you give gives you away.
A real index to a person's character
is how he gives. It isn't always
WHAT you give but it's HOW you
give. The spirit of generosity
behind the giving Is the important
part. Christ showed his approval
of the generous spirit when he said
that the mite which the poor widow
gave was worth more than the mil-
lions given by the group of rich
men.
For real happiness as Christian
students we must give give freely
give willingly give of ourselves
in service.
