Jackets Open Season
Heie Aginst S W T S C
Coach Cheaney's quintet will
make their debut into the new
basketball season December 17
and 18 when they take on the very
reputable Bobcats from San Mar-
cos. The Jackets were scheduled
to tannic with Stephen V. Austin
the 7th and 8th of this month but
because of the recent revival meet-
ings the engagement was cancelled.
Contrary to last year the Jack-
ets can boast of a great deal more
reserve strength as this year's
baskctering gets under way. From
the 13 on last years traveling
squad nine are back this year and I
five of them are letter men. Add
to that squad all-state Hill Wilson j
and Delbert Scott and all-district
Johnson and you can easily see j
why the Jackets mentor has a dif-
ficult time in choosing the starters. ;

Alamo Bowl
Game Cancelled
C. C. Krueger chairman of the
Alamo Bowl football committee
announced this week the cancella-
tion of the proposed New Year's
day game because of inability to
sign two top-notch collegiate teams.
In commenting on the cancella-
tion Krueger stated: "We promised
our fans a high type of football
game featuring nationally known
collegiate elevens. Due to our
limited seating capacity we were i
unable to provide guarantees that
would attract teams of high cali-
bre." Over a dozen of the nation's
"name" teams were approached
during the season and offered
guarantees of 30000 each to play
in the Alamo Bowl game. All
colleges refused to commit them-
selves to an agreement pending
more attractive offers from ma-
jor bowls throughout the nation.
Fans who purchased tickets for
the Alamo Bowl can obtain ic-
funds by mailing their tickets to
San Antonio Chamber of Com-
merce 700 Insurance Building
San Antonio. Checks will be sent
by return mail.
Missouri Valley Wins
Boys' Ranch Bowl
The Missouri Valley Vikings
won their 31st consecutive game
at Abilene Saturday night 20-13.
The Missouri aggiegation broke
a 13-1.1 deadlock three minutes be-
fore the final gun sounded.
A meager crowd of 2500 wit-
nessed Abilene's first bowl venture.
McMurry gained an early lead;
but everytime the Vikings bounced
back and scored again. The In-
dians gained a tie only five min-
utes to play when fleet Floien
Hoefer (a name remembered by
all Jacket fans) returned a Viking
punt 7-1 yards for the tying counter.
Smith missed his try for extra
point. The undaunted Vikings sim-
ply took the kickoff ran three
plays and won the game!

A Garden Hut
The inquisiaivo woman was
worrying the gardener She asked
a lot of silly questions.
"What steps do you take with
the caterpillars?" she asked next.
"Well mum" said the oxpasper-
ated gardener. "I takes a half a
dozen steps into our nearest field
and turns the caterpillars around
three times so that they gets giddy
and don't know their way back."

that although he back-peddled the

to knock Mr. Louis' ears down.
He showed to be the much better
boxer of the two although Louis
has always been favored because
of his ability as a counter puncher.
