Struck by negotiators for tne city I
and the companies which own the f
transit lines.
Samuel untermycr. social counsel i
lor the city and Gerhard M. Dahl,
chairman of the Brooklyn-Manhat-
tan transit and the . Interborough
Rapid Transit directorates, have
agreed on municipal purchase of the
Transit properties ol the two lines
at a figure of $489,804,000.
Their agreement is binding neith-
er upon the city nor upon the stock-
holders of the two lines, but it will
be placed today before the City
Transit Commission and. if it is ap-
proved there, the owners of tpe lines
will act upon- the proposed sale.
The agreement was hailed as the
moat forward step taken in New
Yorks Transit problem since the
Legislature authorized New York, in
1931, to unify its Rapid Transit fa-
culties .
