this year always weighing in
between 700 and 800 on the
highest area of the index.
But not Thursday,1 No.
Thursday, those two counties
registered remarkably lower
than that scary area of red.
Chambers was mostly at the
yellow - between 500 and
600 on the index — although
that yellow was peppered with
specks of green (ranging 400
to 500) and dark orange (600
to 700).
Harris was mostly that (600
to 700) color of orange, although
there were some minor strips
of angry red and a little bit of
yellow.
It is important to note that
some of the greater Houston
area is still at or approaching
a Kectch Byram Drought Index
average of 700 or more.
The KBDI ranges from 0-
800, with 700 or more considered
to be extreme levels of drought
and fire danger.
And both Chambers and
Harris counties remain under
a complete fire ban and fireworks
ban.
So both were considerably
lower than the color of red
Bill Maher recently mocked
(along with Texas Gov. Rick
Perry) on an episode of HBO’s
“Real Time With Bill Maher.”
"Here’s what Texas looked
like back in April with the
drought in red,” Maher said,
pointing at a chart during his
most recent episode! "And
here’s the Eden it is here
today.”
But according to the Thursday
peek, Eden is getting better.
