THE YELLOW JACKET PACE 4 NOVEMBER 14. 1 975
Bobcats scorch HP with three touchdown comeback
Three fourth-quarter touch
downs by quarterback Gar
Frank lifted Southwest Texas
State's Bobcats to a 38-20 vic-
tory over Howard Payne in a
Lone Star Conference football
game here Saturday night in
Cen-Tex Stadium.
The come-from-behind win
left the Bobcats in second place
in the LSC with a 6-1 record.
They are 6-2 on the year.
Howard Payne slid to fr-3-1 for
the year and 4-3 in conference
action.
HPU had a 20-17 kad going
into the fourth quarter but the
monstrous Bobcats were Just
too strong at the finish. And
they got a big assist from an
official on their second TD of
the final period.
Southwest Texas took the lead
to stay with 11:34 still in the
game when Frank capped off an
80-yard Bobcat drive - which
followed a Jacket touchdown -with
a one-yard blast. Carl
Andrea converted to make the
score 2440.
Then moments later Bobbin
Wall boomed a 21-yard punt
against the wind which got only
to tot Jacket 32 to give South-
wtat Texas a chance at adding
icing to the cake.
Despite that the Payne
defenders rose to the orrsofcn
and kad the Bobcats stopped
until a qjusotteaabk pan in-
terference call against HPU on
third down gave 8WT a first
down at the Jacket 14.
From there it was a matter of
time and Frank scored that one
from two yards oat. Andreas
added the PAT with 1:33 still in
the game.
With the game sewed up SWT
still managed to drive 12 yards
in the waning moments with
Frank again romping two yards
for the clincher. Andreas' kick
with 25 seconds left made it 38-20.

After an error-free first
quarter the teams played
things a little looser in the
second period before the
Jackets went to the dressing
room with a 13-10 margin.
The burly Bobcats did Just
what everyone said they would
the first time they got the ball
grinding it out on the ground to
drive 80 yards for the first score
of the game crunching up 7:39
off the clock in the process.

Howard Payne College gained a
structure that 22 years later
would house 100000 books 100
magazine subscriptions and a
number of special services for
faculty and students. As a
student librarian I nave ob-
served that few people un-
derstand clearly the functions
and operations of Howard
Payne University's circulation
library.
Probably the most used
service of the library Is in the
area of books. An average of
1800 volumes are checked out
monthly. Books are loaned for
two weeks at a time and
renewable if the borrower so
desires. Overdue books carry a
fine of five cents a day . Before a
student is allowed to check out a
book he mutt apply for a
library card which is supplied
free to any student enrolled in
Howard Payne and remains
valid as long as the student is
here. In case of loss however
duplicate cards cost 11.50. A
Brownwood resident may
purchase a library card for
82.80.

Walker Memorial Library
now has two cataloguing
systems in effect. The Dewey
Decimal ayatem which is
number-based is the old
traditional system. Library of
Congress the newer broader
classification system baaed on
letters was Implemented last
spring on recommendation of
Dr. Roger Brooks university
president. Library of Congress
is the system used by most
universities and would be the
system used if ever there were a
national system.
Students are encouraged to
make use of the card catalogue
when locating books. The card
catalogue lifts alphabetically
according to subject-title and
author every book in the

ONE OF THE big plays was a
pass interference call on the
Bobcats with Lewis Barr the
victim in the end zone. That
gave HP a first down at the one
and Thompson ran two quar-

down. Morren's kick was good

third period and the Paynemen
were out front once more 20-17.

Students and faculty alike are
guilty of complaining about
Walker Memorial Library. It is
true that in some areas of study
the library ia limited in
resources. On the other hand it
haa a wide variety of in-
formation and materials. There
are many new books for
example alongside rare copies.
