Contributed photo
When eighth grade Cedar Bayou Junior High School stu-
dent Damien Mitchell's schpolmate died of cancer last
year, he wanted to fight babk. Mitchell created the first
ever “Tap Out Cancer” Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament,
which was held March 19 at Elite MMA Baytown, in the
Macy's wing of the San Jacinto Mall. About 150 people
attended the event, benefiting the American Cancer
Society. Through this event, Elite MMA in Baytown raised
$2,200 in one afternoon for the American Cancer Society.
The silent auction will continue until “Team Elite" from Elite
MMA participates in the American Cancer Society's
“Relay for Life — Bay Area Texas” on April 8. $400 worth
of private lessons with Elite MMA instructors and a fishing
trip donated by two-time STAR tournament champion
Robert Ibarra are the big ticket items. Raffle tickets can
be purchased for these items at Elite MMA in Baytown,
281-424-4662.
