Teacher Education Exam
Today is the registration deadline for entering
teacher education students planning to take the Pre-
Professional Skill Test on the next test date March 3
said Dr. Jean Law of the HP education faculty.
Students planning to take the test or with questions
about it should contact Dr. Law Old Main 205 ext. 288.
Lasso Pictures
Attention second semester and new students: your
pictures for the 1984 Lasso yearbook are needed.
Pictures may be taken between the hours of 9 a.m.
and 1 p.m. today at Burks Studio.
There will be no charge to have the picture taken.
Burks is located at 816 Ave. C one-half block East of
Austin avenue between the main campus and the
Daniel Baker campus facing the Austin Avenue
Church of Christ.
Internship Program
A major television station in the Dallas-Fort Worth
area will be operating a 10-week summer internship
program for students with a core in communications or
business.
Any interested juniors and seniors may contact Dr.
Henry Lindsey at ext. 412 concerning the communica-
tions program and Dr. Jim O'Dell at ext. 403 about the
business program.
SUB Movie
Tonight's Student Union Board movie presentation
will feature "The Toy" starring Richard Pryor.
The movie to be shown in Mims Auditorium will
begin at 7 p.m.
Chapel-Convocation
Dr. Robert Schmeltekoff director of missions for the
San Antonio Baptist Association will be Tuesday's
chapel speaker.
Thursday's convocation will be devoted to student
government and class meetings.
Women's Track Team
Any women students interested in participating in a
women's track program at HPU should contact Coach
Rick Amick at the athletic office by Feb. 6 1984.
New Book Display
Twins mysteries aerobics and warfare are just a
few of the topics covered by the latest books to arrive
at Walker Memorial Library. Among the titles on the
New Book display shelf in the lobby are "A Treasury of
Sherlock Holmes" "Twins: an Uncanny Relation-
ship" "At Dawn We Slept: the Untold Story of Pearl
Harbor" "The Aerobics Program for Total Well-
Being" "The Art of the Song Recital" "A Treasury of
Great Mysteries" and "The Sciences and Theology in
the Twentieth Century."
Howard Payne faculty receives additions

Howard Payne has
received two additions to
the faculty. Dr. Ruth Ann
Murphy and Dr. Joseph S.
Murphy joined the faculty
the Friday before spring
registration.
Dr. Ruth Ann Murphy is
the new chairman of the
Division of Science and
Mathematics in the
General College. She
received her bachelor of
science in chemistry from
The University of Texas
(where she met the then
Joseph Murphy) after
graduating from Stephen
Fuller Austin High School
in Austin. After receiving
her doctorate in physical
chemisty from UT Dr.
Murphy taught chemistry
at Southwestern University
in Georgetown.
Dr. Joseph S. Murphy is
Dr. Ruth Ann Murphy's
husband. He is currently
teaching classes in
mathematics physics and
earth science. He received
a stipend from UT to do
post-doctoral study. He
also received a bachelor of
science degree in
chemistry from UT in 1961
and then received a doctor
of philosophy in chemical
physics in 1967.
In 1970 the Murphys left
Austin to go to Albuquer-
que N.M. where Dr.
Joseph Murphy went to
work for Sandia National
Labs doing applied and
practical research. During
this time Dr. Ruth Ann
Murphy taught part-time
at The University of New
Mexico and the University
of Albuquerque. In 1978 she
became chairman of the
Chemistry Department at
the University of Albuquer-
que. In 1979 he began
teaching at the University
of Albuquerque.
SF sponsors annual 'Kiss-A-Pig' contest
The HPU Student Foun-
dation will be sponsoring
its fourth annual Kiss-A-Pig
Contest according to
LaDaryl Price SF projects
coordinator.
Miss Price said that the
awards presentation will
be held during the half-
time of the last home game
for the men's basketball
team Monday Feb. 20
against Sam Houston State.
Contestants compete to
see who can raise the most
penny votes. "The winner
will kiss a pig during the
half-time and a scholar-
ship will be awarded in his
honor to an HPU student
Miss Price said.
"Contestants are Mrs.
