PBL Chapter Takes State Convention By Storm
This university has many things to be
proud of and the Business Department
with their top notch students and
national organizations is certainly one
of them.
Recently the Howard Payne chapter of
Phi Beta Lambda ( a national business
organization that promotes service and
prepares its members for the business
world) competed at the Texas State
convention. '
The competitors were: Ginger
Cunningham Miss Future Business
Executive Andy Eads Mr. Future
Business Executive Stacey Felkins
Accounting II and Angie Reyna
Business Communication.
" Although I was slightly nervous at
first I enjoyed the interview. The
experience prepared me for future
interviews down the road" said
Cunningham.
Cunningham was not he only person
to have a good experience at the
convention. Andy Eads ran for the office
of Vice-President for the State of Texas.
"I enjoyed running for the state office
because I feel it is important for schools
our size to be represented also. Many
times it seems that only big schools
have the power and clout to elect their
people. Well our group that went really
got behind me and we proved them all
wrong" said Eads.
After campaigning and caucusing was
over Eads was elected to be the State
Vice- President for PBL.
" I was proud of our whole group
because they really put out the effort in
each of their competitions" said
sponsor Jerry Wheat.
Next Spring the Howard Payne PBL
chapter has the opportunity to host the
state convention right here on campus.
The chances of our group getting to
host it look better each day. This will
be a great way of introducing students to
our campus who are unfamiliar with our
school.
The Howard Payne group did very
well in the categories entered. Ginger
Cunningham received First Place for
Miss Future Executive Andy Eads
received Third Place for Mr. Future
Executive Angie Reyna received Third
Place in Business Communications and
although Stacey Felkins did not place in
the very competitive Accounting IJ
category she did receive an award on
behalf of our chapter.
The first and second place in each

Student Government Officials To Represent Brown County
Super Tuesday last month was not
only important to the candidates but to
two Howard Payne students as well. It
was on that day that Andy Eads and
Todd White were selected by Brown
County Republicans to represent Brown
County at the Texas State Republican
Convention this summer in Dallas.
At the age of 21 and 22 they are
perhaps some of the youngest delegates
that have ever represented Brown
County before on the state level.
"I am really looking forward to the
convention this summer. It's important
that rural counties such as Brown
county have delegates representing them
that are energetic and enthusiastic. The
state convention will be great but I don't
want to stop just there I am hoping
that I can go to the National
Convention in Houston this August."
said Andy Eads.
Todd White who was elected to be
the chairman for the 204 precinct the
one that all.on-campus Howard Payne
students reside in commented that.
"Andy and I plan on studying and
learning the convention process before
we go this summer. This will help us
be better prepared once we get there at
the convention. The process of
developing the party platform interests
me especially."
Although they are both Business
Administration majors Andy and Todd
are very interested in politics and are
even looking into chartering a College
Republican chapter here on the Howard
Payne campus.
These two guys are not ones for
just talking about helping a candidate
out they really make a contribution.
They have worked in two
campaigns here in Brown County since
they have been enrolled at Howard
Payne University the Hugh Shine for
Congress and the Pete Wilson for State
representative.
"One of the highlights in working
for the Shine for Congress campaign
was the opportunity for Todd and I to
meet former President Gerald Ford at a
reception hosted for him one evening"
said Eads.
Even though both Republican
campaigns the two have worked on here
in Brownwood have not been victorious
they cite the fact that gubernatorial
candidate Clayton Williams did well
here in Brown County and they hope to
have more support for their party here
locally in the future.
