Randle's exhibition, featuring por-
traits, abstract paintings and drawings, is
part of her requirement for graduation as
a studio art major. She is responsible for
all areas of planning and hanging the exhi-

The exhibition is free and open to

collegiate Press Association competition
in San Angelo recently.
The university's literary magazine,
"The Sandstorm," took honorable men-
tion in the best overall literary magazine
category. Editor was Julius C. Graves Ill
of Odessa, post baccalaureate music major.
Midland senior Johnnie Moritz took
first place awards in two categories--
radio documentary and radio single public
affairs program.
Odessa mass communications senior
Rosalie Woodson took second place for a
news story; UTPB alumnus Ren Pettijohn
of Odessa took third place for a magazine
poem; and Pamela Black, speech junior
from Midland, took second place in the
live radio competition.
"Night of Celebration," scheduled
at 6:30 p.m., May 14 in the student lounge,
is a night dedicated tohonoring UTPB grad-
uates and prospective graduates. It marks
the annual homecoming of alumni.
Alumni Director Woody Kupper
said the Alumni Association board of
directors has been planning the event with
expectations of having a full house of
alumni, graduates and faculty.
The theme of this year's celebra-
tion is "The Future of UTPB." Guest
speaker will be Jim Reese, former mayor
of Odessa
Reese is a member of the "Friends
of UTPB Committee" organized to pro-
mote the change for UTPB to four-year
status. He will discuss committee activ-ities, progress and planned programs for
the campaign of developing the university
into a four-year school. He will outline
the developments since the "Friends of
UTPB" made their first presentation to
The University of Texas System Board of
Regents here in December.
New officers for the 1982-83 year
will be elected and the Alumnus of the
Year Award will be presented.
The dinner will be catered and a
dance combo will be featured entertain-
ment.
UTPB computer science students re-
cently took top awards in competition
at Southwest Texas State. Junior Loren
W. Bergeson of Rapid City, South Dakota
and Jeffrey Choat, Odessa junior took
first place in BASIC programming.
Graduate, Robert (Mitch) Slusher
of Odessa, graduate Carole Anne Rey, and
Bergeson took third place in COBOL com-
petition.
Junior Jane A. Arledge of Odessa,
and Slusher also represented UTPB in
the BASIC competition.
The second annual classified $500
staff award presentation will be made at
2 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, in the UTPB
courtyard. Five certificate winners will
be named in addition to the award winner.
Employee service awards will also be pre-
sented. Refreshments will be served fol-
