The weekly broiler placements totaled 5.35
million chicks, up 4 percent from last year
and 2 percent from the previous week.
Texas producers hatched 5.66 million
chicks, 80 percent of the eggs set during
the week of February 28. The hatch
dropped 1 percent from a year ago but was
up 2 percent from last week.
The weekly egg set dropped 2 percent from
last year to 6.90 million eggs. The set was
up 1 percent from the previous week.Texas producers shipped 258,000 broiler
chicks to Arkansas. No inshipments were
received during the week.TWELVE STATES
In the twelve leading broiler producing
states weekly placements totaled 90.58
million chicks, up 6 percent from last year
and 2 percent from the previous week.
The weekly egg set, at 114.82 million,
increased 6 percent from a year ago. The
