One-act plays to take stage May 8-9
RACHAELFERREN
YellowJacket Staff Writer
Three student directed one-
act plays from the Howard Payne
University Drama Department
will be presented Friday and Sat-
urday May 8 and 9. Perfor-
mances will be at Northridge
Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Admis-
sion is free for Howard Payne
students faculty and staff.
"The students have worked
very hard and I hope many
people will be able to come and
enjoy these plays" said Neil St.
Clair Director of Drama at
Howard Payne.
The shows are scenes from
Scott McPherson's play
Marvin's Room directed by
Cody Shane scenes from The
Boys Next Door by Tom Grif-
fin directed by Mike Ozmun and
The Eyes of the Blind directed
by Cindy Couch written by Dor-
othy Hoyer Sharlemann.

fulfillment of degree require-
ments for a degree in drama. The

The student body of
Howard Payne is privileged to
function as a democracy electing
representatives and performing as
a government. With a Constitu-
tion to provide a foundation the
administration works alongside
the student body government to
better the university. However the
democracy aspect fails to take ef-
fect if the student participation
falters in the election process as
was exhibited in last week's elec-
tion. "The lack of participation is

probably because the students
are not interested" said Kristi
Simpson director of student
activities.
If that's the case then
the low level of interest in stu-
dent government is evident
throughout since every class
had many uncontested races
and empty slots on the ballot.
Brian Carter junior class
president and student body
president-elect named several
reasons for the few names on
the ballot and said "I think it
could be combination."
One of the main aspects

At this time of the year
students are pulled in many di-
rections. The student directors
are no exception. In trying to

of the problem is the visibility
of student government.
Carter said "Sometimes
we play a background role and
there's many obscure things
that no one sees."
Probably more conse-
quential are schedules.
"A lot of folks are just
involved in a lot of other
things" explained Carter as he
stressed his understanding of
students' schedules.
