Hit and run causes
$962 of damage
spurs investigation
STEPHANIE DUNAWAY
YJ ASSISTANT EDITOR
"I'd appreciate it if the person
who did it comes forward and takes
responsibility" said Craig Benson
of the damage done to his car on the
Howard Payne campus.
Between II and 12:15 last
Thursday morning Benson's car
was involved in a hit and run out-
side of the Thompson Academic
Complex. The 1991 green Chevrolet
Corsica was parked at 1000 Clark
Street when $962 worth of damage
was done to the vehicle.
Benson has taken action to
find the owner of the vehicle that hit
his car.
"I got the paint chip visually
analyzed. ..and sent it off to Dallas
to get chemically analyzed" said
Benson.
So far the investigation has
proven that the vehicle was probably
a 1996 1997 or 1998 Ford F150
with a silver base and tan pinstripe.

Obviously Benson is persistent and
intends to find the owner of the ve-
hicle. "If I have to search for them
and track them down there is a $500
ticket" explained Benson. The jus-
tice of the peace also told Benson
that there could be other traffic vio-
lations added to the costly ticket for
leaving the scene of an accident.
Along with the cost of a ticket in-
surance payments are usually af-
fected by accidents and the repairs
will be paid by the vandal.
"I work SO hours a week and
if I have to use my own time and
money out of my own pocket to find
this person I will" explained
Benson.
However if the offender
comes forward and takes care of the
damage Benson will not press
charges. He will know the results of
his investigation by November 23
and welcomes any information con-
cerning the accident until then.

Twelve
J-term
classes
to be
offered
DANA WATSON
YJ STAFF WRITER
Howard Payne University
will offer 12 January term
classes.
J-tcrm classes will begin
Monday January 4 and end Fri-
day January 15.
The classes meet about
four and a half hours a day for a
period of 10 class days. Students
arc allowed to take only one J-
tcrm class.
Students wanting to take
classes during J-tcrm need to
sign up during the regular ad-
visement time for the spring se-
mester. Neil St. Clair chair of the
department of communication
and drama said "I think J-tcrm
classes arc fun. To have that
one class and devote all your at-
tention to one class is exciting!"
Page five of the "Spring
1999 Proposed Schedule Of
Classes" lists all classes offered
during the spring semester. A
variety of classes will be offered
during J-tcrm including one
travel class to Thailand.
Since J-tcrm classes arc
considered part of the spring
semester students can use finan-
cial aid to pay for the classes.
Students needing a place
to stay during the J-term may
use the bunk houses located in
the bottom of the campus dorms
free of charge.
The cafeteria will be
closed during J-tcrm so students
will have to provide their own
meals.
J-lerm classes are ideal for
those students needing to catch
up on their hours or who just
want to get ahead on their de-
gree plan or semester.
