OBIE ARELLANO
YJ STAFF WRITER
Man people hac never
experienced the thrill and terror
ot being chased bv a ferocious
lion or being charged by a large
Mrican elephant. Jesse Howard
lias experienced both of these
situations and main more like it
while living in Zambia.
Born in Brown wood and
raised in Af
rica. Jesse
has lived a
life that
many of us
only get to
expenence
through sa-
fari movies.
Jesse's par-
ents are
Mike
and Lindy
How a r d .
Jesse also
has a sister
n a m e d
Tabitha.
Jesse
spent 1 1
years in
Zambia be-
fore his par-
ents sug-
gested that
he return to
the 1'nited
States to
linish his
l o I I e g e
education
and return to his loots.
Jesse doesn't really know
why he picked Howard Payne
but he said. "I guess it was just
God's will that I go here."
He recalls tilling out only
one application and the rest is
history. He is currently a second-
year freshman who is still decid-
ing on his major.
Jesse mostly enjoys play-
ing sports. He played rugby on
the Kenvan NationalTeam when

African attire.
he was in high school. Although he
has not had the opportunity to play
at I toward Payne he is currently try-
ing to get a rugby team started. He
also enjoys driving and visiting his
grandmother in Austin w here he fre-
quents restaurants that offer African
cuisine.
His love for Africa can be seen
in the way he describes a normal day
in Zambia.
"Everybody over there is more
open and ev-
ery day
brings a new
adventure so
you really
can't predict
what is go-
ing to hap-
pen next"
said
Howard.
Howud
believes in
the impor-
tance of a
good faith
relationship
and gives
God credit
for bringing
him to HPU.
"I en-
joy doing
His work if
it is His will
that I do so"
said Jesse.
With
his family
thousands of
miles away
he is no
stranger to independence. While his
parents were doing missionary work
lie spent his days far away from them
in a year-round school.
His best memories are of his
father sister and himself going on
safari hunts.
Although he loves life in the
United States he expresses his ea-
gerness to go back to Africa this
summer.
"Africa is in my blood and I
can't wait to get there" said Jesse.
