Thanks to the writers of "The Foundation"
Dear Editor:
We just wanted to applaud the freshman guys that initiated "The
Foundation" devotional guide. Not only docs this exemplify their will-
ingness to serve and take leadership but we believe it will prove to be
beneficial to all Howard Payne students who decide to take part in it.
Again thanks for allowing God to use you for His glory. Your efforts
show integrity a quality essential to the edification of our university.
Thanks! Keep pressing on.

What would your sticker say?
IK?.
1 took a road trip last week-
end. It wasn't one of those every-
body pile into the car grab the candy
bars somebody look at the map
trips. It was me my car and 1 1 hours
on the open road.
My car is too good for a CD
player. I don't even have a tape deck.
It was j ust me and the radio. Fortu-
nately. I listen to anything. I'm not
kidding I like rock. Christian coun-
try ja. classical. Tejano. etc....
It I'm in my car. music is play-
ing until the radio stations are out
ol reach. Then I just sing to myself.
But. this weekend I sang so much
my jaw started to hurt from my
mouth being open so much so 1 had
to find something else to do.
Did you know that bumper
stickers are making a comeback? I
guess I hadn't really noticed how
widespread the car decor business
had become until last weekend.
I saw cars with political spiri-
tual feminism social earth peace
life-style pro-choice and funny
messages. I here were Hippy gun
environmental peace animal
rights leftism and politically cor-
rect bumper stickers too.
Most of them were difficult
to read. I would have rear-ended a
couple of cars if I had gotten close
enough to read their stickers but
there were plenty to occupy my
thoughts.
The funniest ones were the
environmental protection mes-
sages. The irony of displaying "De-
fend the Earth-Protect our Envi-
ronment" while driving a car that
emits fossil fuels and damages the
oone layer made me laugh out
loud.
Another car sped by me be-
tween Lubbock and Odessa going
much faster than the 70 m.p.h.
speed limit and "DARE to Keep
Cops off Donuts" Hashed before
me from the back of his car. I snick-
ered at the thought of a policeman
or highway patrolman seeing that
after he sped by a radar device. He
probably wouldn't get off with a
warning. Not too bright!
I've really felt convicted by
God's command to obey authority
and have a new policy of not
.speeding. I don't have cruise con-
trol so I caught myself hovering
over 75 a couple of times but there
were numerous vehicles that
passed me like the hare passed the
turtle. I noticed that quite a few of
them displayed Christian bumper
stickers an icthus or a cross. I won-
dered if any of them had ever thought
about the witness it sends to a pass-
ersby. I'm not a fan of sticking any-
thing on my car. I like for it to be clean
and smell like a fruit scented air fresh-
ener. But I did see a bumper sticker I
would probably buy if I ever saw it
in a store: "Honk if you love peace
and quiet." As a communication ma-
jor I also chuckled when I saw "I ma-
jored in Liberal Arts; Would You Like
Fries With That?".
Since Valentine's Day is just
around the corner I wrote down some
for all singles: "Looking for Mr. Right
Mr. Wonderful (both crossed out) Mr.
Coffee" and "Schizophrenia beats
being alone.
I was so intrigued by the popu-
larity of bumper stickers that I looked
up some on a website. "My Other
Browser is a Netscape" was seen on
Bill Gates Caddy and "I'd Rather Be
Looking For the Real Killers" was
stuck on O.J. Simpson's golf cart.
As funny as they are I will
probably never put a bumper sticker
on my car. However I'm not opposed
to creating bumper stickers for
people. Like a Mack truck a really
big guy could wear "CAUTION
Makes Wide Turns."

But having renounced the hidden
things of dishonesty not walking in
craftiness nor handling the word of
God deceitfully; but by the
manifestation of the truth
commending ourselves to every
man's conscience in the sight of
God. But if our Gospel be hid it is hid
