To Report
Tuesday
A 57-member jury panel for
109th District Court has been
notified by the office of
County Sheriff Jerry D., Bell to
report for possible jury duty.
The prospective jurors are
to report at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday,
Dec. 10, in the District
Courtroom of the courthouse.
Included in the jury panel
are eight residents of Wink:
F. G. Claiborne, Mark
Nordman, Carroll L. Eggleston,
Mrs. J. W. Neatherlin, Odie
Thompson, Joann Henry,

1975 Banquet
SANTA LAND NEARS COMPLETION
The newest addition to the Annual Christmas Season in Kermit
is Santa Land and it is now nearing completion. The first
portion of the new attraction, a sleigh, is shown here with not
only some of the Kermit High School students who were in
charge of its creation, but also Santa Claus. Santa Land is being
constructed by members of the KHS C.V.A.E. class and is to be
placed at the Jaycee Christmas Tree Lot at the intersection of
Poplar and Austin. Students shown above with the sleigh are

Plans for the Kermit
Chamber of Commerce Annual
Banquet were announced
during the Chamber Board of
Directors monthly meeting
Tuesday in the Chamber
Action Room.
Director-in-charge of the
banquet, Chuck Williams,
announced that the banquet is
to be held Feb. 3 in Kermit
Community Center. PLans for
the event call for it to be a
cafeteria-style banquet, and
bids are now being taken on
meal prices.
Williams also announced
that master of ceremonies for
the banquet is to be County
Attorney Mike Fostel.
To be in charge of ticket
sales for the event will be
Jimmy McKay, and cost of the
tickets is to be determined by
mid-Dece;nber.
Directors attending the
meeting discussed various
forms of entertainment for the
banquet and a banquet
speaker. The board also
discusse; various methods for
selling tickets, and the majority
voiced favorable comments for
a team-selling approach.
The banquet committee is to
meet in the near future to

Christmas Season

To Meet
Santa Claus officially
opened the 1974 Christmas
Season in Kermit Monday
afternoon when he came to
town in the midst of the
annual Christmas Parade.
The annual parade began
shortly after 5 p.m. Monday
and was hailed as one of the
biggest and best ever by a large
turnout of local residents.
Although the total number
of entries in the parade this
year was about the same as in
recent years, there were more
t floats than usual and there was
also a new attraction: Senior
Citizens on decorated
three-wheel bicycles.
Parade judges named the
float entry of Kermit High
School Student Council winner
of first place and a $50
cash award. The second place
float was entered by Kermit
Girl Scouts, and it won a cash
prize of $25.
Winning top honors in the
children’s decorated bicycle
contest were Sam Fishback,
son of Mrs. and Mrs. J. E.

Monday | Scout Banquet Held
The office of County Judge
E. C. Locklear announced
today that the first December
meeting of the County
Commissioners Court is to be
held Monday, Dec. 9.
The meeting is to be held in
the Commissioners Courtroom
of the courthouse and will
begin at 9:30 a.m.
Items listed on the agenda
for the meeting include:

The annual Sand Hills
District Recognition Banquet
of the Boy Scouts of America
was held Monday night in the
Fellowship Hall of Kermit’s
First United Methodist Church.
Rev. David Northcutt of
Pecos, 1974 Sand Hills District
chairman, presided at the
meeting, which was attended
by a large group of scouters
from Kermit, Wink, Pecos and
Monahans. Rev. Northcutt is a
former resident of Kermit and
is a 1960 graduate of Kermit
High School.
Dr. Paul Hollinshead of
Kermit served as banquet
chairman. The invocation wac
given by Dr. A. O. Thomas of
Kermit, and the Methodist Men
of the Kermit church prepared
the meal and served the
banquet. Ronnie Robbins,
president of the Methodist
Men, welcomed the group to
the banquet. Prior to his
welcoming remarks, local
scouts presented a flag
ceremony, and special music
was provided by Joe Coombes
and Mrs. Betty Thompson.
District officers for 1975
were installed by Dr.
Hollinshead. Audrey Baker of
Pecos will serve as district
chairman during the new year.
Other new officers who
attended were Dr., Thomas of
Kermit and Lynn Trapp of
Monahans.
Eagle Scouts chosen in the
district during 1974 were
recognized by Rev. Northcutt.
They are: Kenneth C. Williams
and Bobby McNabb, both of
Troop 66 in Kermit; Thomas J.
Batchelor, Troop 149,
Monahans; and Bruce Ward,
who has moved to Fort
Stockton.
Public relations awards were
presented by Rev. Northcutt to
The Winkler County News, The
Wink Bulletin, The Pecos
Enterprise, the Monahans
News and The Van Horn
Advocate in the newspaper
division. Accepting the awards
for The News and The Bulletin
was Bill J. Beckham, and E. O.
Pauly accepted the award for
The Enterprise.
Radio awards were
presented to KERB of Kermit,
KIUN of Pecos and KVKM of
Monahans and a television
award was given to KMOM-TV
of Monahans.
Mr. and Mrs. Oran
McCallister of Wink recognized
scout leaders, who have been
active in the Cub Leader and
Recognition Program. Special
awards were presented to
several other active scout
leaders by Rick Wilkins of San
Angelo, who will become
district scout executive
January 1.
R. L. (Buck) Swinford
recognized commissioners from
each of the counties in the
district and presented Fall
Roundup Awards to those
attending.
Arrowhead Order of the
Arrow Awards were presented

event.
The next item to be taken
under consideration by the
board was the Commemorative
Medal project, and it was
proposed that all directors of
the Chamber purchase coins
immediately. “The board needs
to make the first move in
purchasing the coins . . . “said
Williams, “I think everyone
should buy a coin ... we don’t
need to wait for some JohnDoe
to start buying them. ”
Chamber manager Mrs. Dale
Christian pointed out that the
coins have been minted and are
now being shipped to Kermit.
She also announced that the
members of the coin
committee, Thomas J. Smith,
Fred Green and Frank Knight,

met recently, and Green and
Knight are to consider placing
advertising in their respective
nationally distributed
newspapers and other
publications in the near future
in order to bolster sales of the
medals. Green is publisher of
Today’s Coins, and Knight is
publisher of Collector’s
Weekly.
Mrs. Christian pointed out
that since the sale of the
commemorative medals began
to members of the Chamber, a
total of nine $100
four-coin-sets have been sold.
The commemorative medals
will go on sale to the public
Dec. 16.

Jordan Is Named
Banquet Speaker
The speaker for the 1975
Kermit Chamber of Commerce
Annual Banquet is to be
George R. Jordan, manager of
Cleburn Chamber of
Commerce.
In announcing that Jordan is
to be the speaker at the
banquet, Kermit Chamber of
Commerce manager Mrs. Dale
Christian stated that Jordan is
“an extremely powerful and
interesting speaker.”
In addition to his having
been a chamber of commerce
executive for 15 years, Jordan
has also been the director of
tourist and industrial
development for the West
Texas Chamber of Commerce
for four years, served as
director of personnel training
for a national motel and
restaurant chain, worked as a
broadcast engineer for three
years and worked in the Civil
Aeronautics Administration of
the U.S. Department
Commerce for 12 years.

NEW TWIRLERS ARE SELECTED
Selection of twirlers for the Kermit High School Band for the 1975-76 school year were held
Monday morning under the direction of J. R. McEntyre, supervisor of music in the Odessa
Public School system. The five young ladies selected to lead the band during the upcoming year
were chosen from a field ot nine contestants, after being judged for showmanship, appearance,
grooming, carriage and ability. The girls chosen to represent the band are (left to right) head
twirler Vicki Patterson, JoAnn Waddell, Ann Rush, Debbie Hurst, and Kim Garrison. The
selection was made after the girls performed in a closed trial session without any outside

Booster Club
Sets Special
Meet Thursday
A special meeting of the
Yellow Jacket Booster Club
has been announced by club
president Calvin Workman
which is to be held Thursday
night at 7:30 in the Kermit
High School Cafeteria.
Workman stated that during
the course of the meeting the
members of the seventh,
eighth, ninth, junior varsity
and varsity basketball teams
will be recognized.
The members of the club
will also discuss matters of
business which include to
option of having a football
banquet, all-sports banquet or
both.
All paid members of the
organization are urged to
attend the meeting.
RECOGNITION BANQUET
District committee chairmen of the Sand Hills District of the
Boy Scouts of America were presented Monday night at the
annual Sand Hills Recognition Banquet, held in Fellowship Hall
of First United Methodist Church of Kermit. Receiving the
awards were (front row, left to right): Dr. A. O. Thomas of
Kermit, vice chariman for Winkler County; Oran McCallister of
Wink, Cub Scout leader training; and Mrs. Oran (Doroth
