Christ not only offers hope
for the future, but He Himself
is that hope. His resurrection
was the final victory over
death; it spelled His triumph
over all the powers of evil.
Naturally then, we look
forward to His promise that
one blessed day we will take
hold of a welcoming hand and
find it to be God’s hand. We
are to live eternally.
There is nothing for us to
fear in the future. Christ, by
virtue of His lowly birth,
humble life, painful death and
glorious resurrection, has paid
sin’s awful price for us. No
longer need we fear the
judgment of God. The
punishment of our sins has
been meted out upon Christ.
He not only withstood this
punishment on the cross but
also rose from the grave to a
life victorious.
In many back yard gardens
and in many city parks it is
very easy to find a sundial.
These objects would be
worthless as timepieces were it
not for the sun shining brightly
above. On the flat top of a
short pillar there is usually
marked the face of a clock. A
brass pointer stands upright in
the center of the dial. Then, as
the sun ipoves across the Sky,
the shadow it casts- mark's; the
time on the dial. 1 remember
seeing a certain sundial which
was engraved with these words:
“without the shadow -
nothing.”
So, too, if it were not for
the uplifting cross on calvary,
our life would be as worthless
as nothing. Through this cross
God has promised the peace of
Christ to all who believe and
love Him. This is a peace which
can be attained only through
faith in Christ as your Savior.
This is a peace which passes
all understanding. The human
mind or human desires are not
capable of attaining and
maintaining true peace among
men. This is possible only
when we can first have true
peace with God our Creator.
Having this, we can then be at
peace with ourselves and
consequently, with our
fellowmen. Just think of how
insignificant the many things
of this world are when they are
compared to eternal peace and
all of its glory.

our Christ it appeared as if evil
would prevail. Throughout His
brief 33 years He led a. life as.,
tfie insignificant Son of a
cairpenter.. His last three yea?£
were spent as an itinerant
preacher, scoffed by many and
accepted by but a small
percentage. His death was a
shameful death, being placed
upon a cross among common
thieves. Good Friday was a
black and fearsome day but
still life went on. In the face of
pending disaster, faith in Christ
was confirmed in His glorious
and triumphant resurrection
from the grave. Christ became
the victor and not the victim of
evil. Today He lives in the
hearts of men. He rose to a
new eternal life so we too can
rise to a new eternal life
beginning with this Easter
season.
The Living Bible translates
II Corinthians 5:17 by saying:
“When someone becomes a
Christian he becomes a brand
new person inside. He is not
the same any more. A new life
has begun!” When Christ rose
from the grave on that Easter
morning many years ago, He
began a new life. And just as
Paul has stated, when we
become a Christian we begin a
new life. It is also true that all
who have already become
Christians may rededicate their
lives at Easter.
One of the most popular
symbols of Easter is the
common butterfly. The
butterfly is a very beautiful
thing to behold. The
significance, however, is — how
it became a butterfly.
Knowledge of nature would
indicate that formerly, this
butterfly was a simple
caterpillar. Eventually, a
cocoon was formed and out of
it came the butterfly. Just as
there are two apparent stages
in the life of all believers. Just
as the butterfly emerged into a
new life, so we, through faith
in the death and resurrection
of Jesus Christ, can emerge to a
new life. We become new
people inside. We are not the
same but rather have a totally
changed and new life.
The old man has been put
aside and behold, we are new.
Our former sinful desires have
been replaced with a
God-pleasing attitude. The
forgiveness which Jesus has
earned on the cross has earned
for us eternal life in heaven.
That is the promise from the
cross. That is the promise of
the resurrection - that we shall
live eternally with God in
heaven. This is the new life.
Yes, think of how insignificant
the many things of the world
are as compared with eternity
in all of its glory. This is our
promised inheritance. This is
what Easter means, because He
lives we too shall live in glory.
Christ is the victor. Christ is
our victor. Christ leads us to a
new life. Christ is our Savior.
Alleluia! Amen.
