LADIES DEFEAT
JOHNSON CITY
The Harper Lady Horns
tipped off their basketball sea-
son, Tuesday night, November
7, at the Harper School Gym,
by defeating both Johnson City
Lady teams. It was a first for
the varsity team to be playing a
five person game, after the rule
change was enacted last year.
In the Junior Varsity game,
the Lady Horns defeated the
Johnson City team by a whop-
ping 36-11. Melanie McDougall
led the Harper team with 24
points, and Tammy Edson fol-
lowed with 8 points, Suzan
Matus lead Johnson City with 6
points.
The Varsity game was a see-
saw battle the entire night with
the lead changing never more
than 4 points difference in the
two teams. The Lady Horns
finally won the game 28-26,
after trailing by as much as 4
points early in the 4th quarter.
Denise Fritz led the Lady
Horns with 16 points, Judy Wie-
necke had 4, and Judy Edson,
Loraine Fritz, Rose Dunn, and
Patty Young each added 2.
Patty Smith lead the Johnson
City teams with 10 points and
Janie Westone had 8.
Lady Horns Get Second Victory
The Harper Lady Horns won
their second straight game,
Tuesday night, November 14,
when they traveled to Johnson
City for a return match with
the Lady Eagles. After a close
game with the Lady Eagles the
week before, the Lady Horns
were expecting a tough battle
but the Lady Eagles could not
muster much wind for their
wings and could only toss in a
mere 14 points for the entire
night.
The Lady Horns had a good
defensive night with the first
quarter remaining scoreless
until the last three minutes.
They allowed the Lady Eagles
only 2 points the entire first
quarter while they put in 5.
This was the name of the game
all night and the score ended
with 25 for the Lady Horns and
14 for Johnson City.
Judy Edson was high for the
night with 7 points, Denise
Fritz, Patty Young each had 6
and Loraine Fritz had 4, Judy
Wienecke had 2.
In the Junior Varsity game
the Harper girls won 23-14.
Melanie McDougall was high
with 11 points and Suzan Sem-
britzky had 8 points and Mela-
nie McMahon had 2 points. This
was the second victor for the
Junior Varsity Girls team.
Coach Loewe stated that the
team would have to improve on
their free throw shooting to be
in district contention. They did
not make any free throw shots
their first game and only 9 out
of 29 attempts in the second
game. He said they need to be
shooting at least 60 percent to
have a chance at the district
crown.

preparations according to size
of families.
Everyone enjoyed the
demonstration as well as
getting out of class and tasting
the delicious turkey.

the game was a defensive
battle with no other scores

point buck; Bobby Schluter
who got an eight point buck;

Longhorns Win Over D’Hanis 12-0 lunchroom crunchies
The Longhorn Team has
found out how to win and win
they did as they trampled the
D’Hanis team 12-0 in an excit-
ing game on the D’Hanis
Homecoming night.
It was a team effort all the
way as the Longhorns blocked,
tackled, and ran their way all
over the field, and at the same
time the ’Horn defense held the
D’Hanis team and did not let
them cross the goal line.
The referees called back two
touchdowns for the ’Horns and
made a number of controver-
sial calls but the ’Horns were
not to be denied a win. They
kept their cool as much as
possible and won the game.
Touchdowns were made by
Mitch Maner and Raymie
Ficker but the credit goes to
the entire team.
Coach Masser said he could
not pin point any one star but it
was just good effort by the
entire team.
Junior High Girls Win; Boys Lose
The Longhorns continued in
their winning ways Friday
night as they defeated Rock-
springs 12-6.
It was a defensive battle the
entire first half as the half
ended 0-0. But early in the third
quarter Robbie Walker made a
30 yard run that ended on the
one yard line. The next play
Walker went over for the first
time for a touchdown of the
night.
The next touchdown was also
made by Walker making the
final score 12-6. Rocksprings’
attempts to come from behind
failed as the ’Horn defense
held.
The game ended the season
for the ’Horns, giving them a 3-
5 district standing and a 4-6
season.
Mason Wins 41-36

Basketball team under Coach
Robert Fikes was defeated by

Harper with 19 points. Adding
to the score was Raymie Ficker
and Kenny Meeks with 6 points
each; David Jung 4, and Jeff
Mosty with 1.
Coach Fikes stated that the
boys had a slow start but
showed improvement through-
out the game.

real fine job after the first
quarter and a few minor ad-
justments.” He further stated
that the Longhorns are looking
forward to a fine year.
The Junior High girls got off
to a good season start by de-
feating the Johnson City team
16-15 and the Ingram team 17-
12.
The girls are coached by Mr.
Hoy Smith, who stated that the
girls were coming along real
good. He said, “They show a lot
of hustle and desire. They sure
do have a winning attitude. I
feel like we are going to win.a
lot of ball games this year.” f

Ressmann shared high pointers»
with 6 each for the Ingram
game and Renee Staudt and

free throw shot.

Lady Horns Win Third Game 36-21
The Lady ’Horns continued in
their winning ways, Tuesday
night, November 21, by de-
feating the Junction Lady
Eagles 36-21.
It was a hard fought battle
becoming very physical as very
few tie balls were called and
even fewer fouls.
Denise Fritz lead the scoring
for the home team with 17
points. This was very good con-
sidering her guard was much
taller than she.
Loraine Fritz stayed tough
under the basket as she pulled
up with 7 points. Patty Young
had 6, Judy Edson 4, and Rose
Dunn had 2 to round out the
scoring.
Coach Loewe, commenting
on the game, said, “We were
able to stay out of foul trouble
by substituting freely from our
strong bench, and Junction did
not do this. I believe this was
the difference in the game.”
The Junior Varsity suffered
their first loss of the season as
they were defeated by the
Junction JV’s 27-32.
It was also a rough and
tumble contest. The locals were
able to stay within a few points
of their opponents with the free-
throw shooting of Tammy Ed-
son. She was high for the night
with 18 points, ten of which
were free throws. Melanie Mc-
Dougall had 6, and Rene Tatsch
had three to round out the
scoring.
