MARTHA RAYE
PATRICK BALDAUFF
tonio, starring in “Everybody
Ixives Opal.”
Miss Raye has made a most
successful career of comedy on
the stage as well as in movies
and television since the age of
three years. In any country, no
matter what language, Miss
Raye’s brand of comedy has
universal appeal. Here, in San
Antonio, she plays a lovable old
woman who collects everything
from junk to people.
“Everybody Loves Opal” has
been running at the Fiesta Din-
ner Playhouse for the past four
weeks, and will end Sunday,
July 1. Miss Raye, who also
directed the production, is
aided in the comedy by a highly
professional cast including Hal
Fletcher, Andrea Ladik, Mort
Sertner (who was seen at the
Fiesta in the Tab Hunter pro-
duction of “Here Lies Jeremy
Troy”), Gary Marachek and
San Antonio’s own David
Bowen. Martha Raye starring
in “Everybody Loves Opal”
truly is a love of a comedy for
the whole family.
Another “love of a show”, as
well as deeply moving, is the
Fiesta’s up-coming musical,
“Fiddler On The Roof.” This
critically acclaimed musical,
which encompasses the gamut
from sheer joy to total depres-
sion, touches the hearts of
everyone who hears the linger-
ing melodies. It is no wonder
that “Fiddler On The Roof” has
been described as “. . . one of
the most beautiful musicals of
our time.” “Fiddler” begins
July 3, starring New York’s
musical star, Fyvush Finkel.
For reservations to see the last
week of Martha Raye starring
in “Everybody Loves Opal” or
“Fiddler On The Roof” star-
ring Fyvush Finkel, call the
Fiesta Dinner Playhouse at 494-
7793.
I .ocal media representatives
who have seen “Everybody
Ixrves Opal” said they were
greatly impressed with the
brilliant performance of Miss
Raye and her supporting cast.
