Wonderment is written all
over Bobby’s face as he attempts
to climb the specially built train-
ing steps at an Easter Seal treat-
ment center. Bobby is just one of
thousands of Texas youngsters
who benefited from dollars rais-
ed by the Texas Society for
Crippled Children through Eas-
ter Seal Campaigns.
Millions of appeal letters con-
taining the bright blue and yel-
low Seals were sent to Texas
homes inaugurating the 21st an-
nual campaign.
“Crippled Children are our
greatest undeveloped natural re-
source,” said Martin M. Ricker,
executive director of the Texas
Society.
“There are other Bobbys who
want to walk and ask for only
the opportunity to lead a use-
ful life,” he further stated. “You
can do your part in helping
Bobby and thousands of other
Texas youngsters by using Eas-
ter Seals.”

THE GOOD EARTH, YOUR
AMERICAN HERITAGE
Have you looked around late-
ly, more especially when the
wind has been blowing a gale?
Just how good have we been
controlling wind erosion? Some
have done a good job, others not
so good. The next time you see
a field blowing, stop and de-
cide for ’yourself what caused
it to blow. Only a few thousands
of the over 160,000 acres in the
area are blowing even moderate-
ly; a much smaller acreage is
blowing severely.
Most of the land that is blow-
ing this season has an inade-
quate cover. Give a parcel of
land a good cover, either growing
or dead stubble, and in almost
every instance these high winds
will do no damage. If your land
does not have sufficient cover
and is beginning to blow, about
all you can do is emergency
plow the area by listing, chisel-
ing or with a mold-board plow.^
Land with adequate stubble
at or near the surface will not
blow—stubble-mulch farming is
one of the safest ways to farm.
