Parade To Kick-Off Christmas Season
Kermit’s annual Christmas Parade will officially
usher the Christmas Season into Winkler County today
(Monday). Complete with Santa Claus, bands, floats,
decorated bicycles and many other participants.
The parade is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m.
and will feature performances of three bands.
Scheduled to perform in the parade are the Kermit
High School marching ‘K’ Band, Kermit Junior High
School Band and the Wink Wildcat Band.
In addition to the regular attractions to be present in
the parade will be a U.S. Marine Color Guard, which
will lead the parade.
In announcing the annual parade, Parade Marshal E.
E. (Mutt) Spangler stated that the parade this year is
undoubtably going to be bigger and better than in
years past.
In order to make it possible for everyone to attend
the annual event, Kermit Schools have announced that
they will dismiss all students this afternoon at 2:4S-
p.m.
Also taking part in the parade will be the annual
decorated bicycle contest, three-wheel bicycle contest
and float contest.
The decorated bicycle contest and the float contest
are sponsored by Kermit Chamber of Commerce, and
cash prizes will be awarded to the best three bicycles
and floats.
Contestants in the decorated bicycle contest are
urged to decorate both their bicycles and themselves, if
they desire, in a manner appropriate to the season and
follow the rules lister here:
1. Contestants must be 8th grade age or younger.
2. Contestants must be present at 4:15 p.m. today at
Bryan Street between Olive and Locust Streets; form a
line east along Bryan Street from the corner of Olive
Street; remain in line and await instructions.
3. Judging will begin at 4:30 p.m. (Before the parade
starts.)
4. Prizes will be $10 for first place, $6 for second
place and $4 for third place.
5. Contestants must keep their place in line until the
parade is completed and try to keep about five bicycle
lengths between bicycles.
6. Parade will begin at Olive Street, proceed east
along Austin, south on Poplar and end at Walton Field.
Other participants in the parade will be Mayor G. L.
McGuire, County Judge E. C. Locklear, Kermit Saddle
Club and the Sandhills Our Little Miss.
Also to be featured in the parade will be the 1974
Homecoming Queen Miss Shonnie Lewis, Theta
Gamma’s Miss Halloween Queen, new automobiles from
Simon Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Kermit Motor Company,
Cowling Motor Company, McGuire Motors and special
guests, the Senoritas de las Rosas of Odessa College.
Other entries will be sponsored by the U.S. Navy,
Kermit Cub Scouts, Kermit Boy Scouts, Kermit Girl
Scouts, the Pecos Chamber of Commerce, Christian
High School Union, Kermit Downtown Lions Club,
two fire trucks from Kermit Volunteer Fire
Department, and one featuring the highlight of the
parade, SANTA CLAUS.
Prizes are to be awarded to outstanding float entries.
Prizes are to be presented by Kermit Retail Merchants.
Following the parade, local merchants will keep
their stores open for the convenience of Christmas
shoppers in Kermit.

County will open Monday
(today) with District Judge
Russdl D. Austin of
Andrews presiding.
The Criminal Docket will be
called at 9:30 a.m., followed
by the calling of the Civil
Docket at 9:45 a.m.
Non-jury and divorce
matters will also be heard
% today.
Jury cases will get under
way at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday,
Dec. 3, and criminal jury cases
and other civil cases will start
at 9:30 a.m., Dec. 17. Pleas of
guilty in criminal cases will be
heard Dec. 16.
Sixty-eight Winkler County
residents have been notified by •
the office of Sheriff Jerry D.
Bell to report Tuesday, Dec. 3,
for possible District Court jury
duty.
The prospective jurors are to
appear at 9:30 a.m. in 109th
District Courtroom in Winkler
' County courthouse in Kermit.
Winkler County Grand Jury
is scheduled to convene today
to consider cases pending for
the December Session of
District Court.
The Grand Jury will meet at
9:30 a.m. in Winkler County
Courthouse.

Move To Kermit
MAKE DONATION TO LIBRARY
P. B. Scott, representing Kermit Senior Citizens, is shown
recently donating a book entitled, “The Arthritis Handbook” to
Winkler County Library. Librarian Mrs. David Waterstreet is
shown accepting the donation. Also presented to the library
were several copies of pamphlets which list facts of arthritis.
The pamphlets are to be given to any interested residents. The
local Senior Citizens plan to conduct a house to house canvass
Wednesday, Dec. 4, to collect donations for the most crippling
disease in America, arthritis.

Senior Citizens Plan Campaign
Members of the local Senior
Citizens organization have
made plans to conduct a drive
in Kermit and Winkler County
this week to obtain funds to
help combat arthritis.
Announcement of the
upcoming drive to be held
Wednesday, Dec. 4, was made
Friday by a representative of
the organization, P. B. Scott.
Plans call for local Senior
Citizens to begin the drive with
a house-to-house canvass.
In announcing the fund
raising plans, Scott stated
“Arthritis is our nation’s
leading crippling disease and it
strikes one of every four
families.”
To begin the campaign, local
Senior Citizens made a book
donation to Winkler County
library. The book donated by
the group was, “The Arthritis
Handbook.”
In addition to presenting the
book to the library, the group
also placed numerous
pamphlets at the library, which
are to be given free to any and
all interested local residents.
Scott stated that all funds
obtained by the group through
the drive are to be presented to
the West Texas Chapter of the
Arthritis Foundation.
In announcing the group’s
plans to conduct the fund

welcomed a total of 30 families
to Kermit during the month of
October.
Included in the new families
are some 99 persons.
The five-member family of
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Adcock
moved to Kermit from Odessa.
He is employed as a mechanic
for The Western Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Britton and
their family of four moved
here from Las Vegas, N. M.,
and he is a roughneck for Hillin
Drilling Company.
The four-member family of
Antonio Carrasco came to
Kermit from Mexico. He is
employed by Charles Wright
Construction Company.
B. R. Clark moved to Kermit
from Loveland, Colo. He is a
roughneck for Noble Drilling
Company.
Rev. and Mrs. Carl Davis
moved here from El Paso. He is
minister of the Church of the
Nazarene.
Janet Dampeer, recent bride
of Dr. John Dampeer, was also
welcomed to Kermit in
October. She came to Kermit
from Denver, Colo.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Frazier
moved to Kermit from
Cushing, Okla. He is employed
as a paint foreman for
Industrial Service.
The four-member family of
Manuel A. Fuentes moved here
from Odessa. He is employed
by Union Oil Company as a
roustabout.
The six-member family of
Ubano Gomez moved to
Kermit from Presidio.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Gonzales and their family of
four moved to Kermit from
Las Cruces, N. M. He is a
salesman for Dyer Furniture.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kettle
moved here from Fort
Stockton. He is employed as a
pipe fitter for Fish
Engineering.
The four-member family of
Trinidad Luna moved to
Kermit from Fort Stockton.
He is employed by A-l
Construction Co. as a laborer.
Manuela Lujan came here
from Presidio and she is now
planning to make her home in
Kermit.
The three-member family of
Mike Martinez moved to
Kermit from Odessa. He is
employed by Kermit Motor
Company as a body shop
painter.

Ranking third in the number
of players named to the first
team All-district, the Kermit
Yellow "Jackets were able to
place four players to the team
with two of those being on the
offensive unit while two went
to the defensive squad.
Yellow Jacket Richard
Townley earned a spot on the
offensive unit at his guard
position while Daryle Fulbright
was the only Jacket making the
first team out of the Kermit
backfield. Fulbright was a
runningback for the Jackets
and was the third best rusher in
District 2-AAA for the 1974
season.
Making his second
appearance on the first team
all-district, Mike Smith was the
only Jacket to earn his second
spot on the first team defensive
unit. Also being named to the

monthly meeting for
December.

Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 3:30 p.m.
in the Action Room of Kermit

the agenda is a report on the
sale of the recently minted
First Winkler County
Commemorative Medal. All
members of the board are
urged to attend the meeting.

FRIDAY COLLISION
City Police officers were summoned to the scene of a two car mishap which occured at
approximately 3 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Bryan and Poplar streets in Kermit. Involved
in the accident were a 1971 Javelin being operated by 20-year-old Jill Giesler and a 1964
Pontiac which was being driven by Carey G. Wallace, 17, of Las Vegas, Nev

INVOLVED IN MISHAP
This 1964 Ppntiac was involved in a mishap early Friday afternoon
which caused moderate to heavy damage to the two vehicles involved. According to
investigating officers, the mishap occured as the Wallace auto was traveling west on Bryan street
and apparently ran the stop sign at the intersection of Bryan and Poplar. After running the stop
sign the auto was apparently struck by the Giesler vehicle. (Staff Photo)
