SPRING TRAINING SHOWS
Exceptionally Heavy Line
To Be Feature Of Team
- Spring training is now in full
wing in the preparation for a uc-
ctMfol pigskin campaign. Coach
Medlar with his six assistants of'
ficially opened the Spring campaign
last Wednesday. There are many
promising prospects for the com-
ing varsity and competition will be
very keen for every position.
Coach Medley's six assistants are
giving first hand information in
both blocking and tackling and all
other football tactics.. With Con-
nie.' Jim and Smitty coaching the
backfield there should be plenty of
good material coming up. Amon
Bob and Sloppy have taken over
the jo of Coaching the lines. They
are capable teachers of fast chang-
ing linesmen and should be able to
show the big husky candidates
many tricks on the pigskin rou-
tine. .- The first day of practice was
aaftatd solely to the numerous
drills and to tackling and to block-
lng"aThe rain over the week-end
caused the practice to be discontin-
ued until this week.
fch Monday Coach Medley's
Braves carried on a gruelling bone
smashing sciimmagc of three hours'
duration. This scrimmage showed I
many of the weak points of the
team jind also many of the pros-1
pectivt stars forthe coming sea-
son. Coach plana" to have a three
gaiMterfea between his two el-
ected teams. One team is com-
posed of Meek and Daniel at end
position. Stockton and Foreman as
tackles. Christian and Brogdon ra
guards Brian at center. In the
backfield are Brooks Boat Pool'
Carter and Blackburn. I
.The ottar team selected is com
posed of lettermen from last year's
vanity backfield and an assort-
ment of line material. The ends
on this squad are enry and Reeves;
tackles pavis and Hunt; guards.
Stephenson and Woods; center.
McChiskey. The backfield is com-
posed of Detrixhe Pratt Harless.
Foster and Anthony.
The first game of this series is
to be played as soon as the mater-
ial has been rounded into shape.
A high degree of Interest should
be aroused over this series as there
A many promising candidates for
each position. This series should
show to a marked degree the var-

Glorius Green
Ever since we can remember the
college "Fish" has been identified'
with anything green. Only fresh-
men can appreciate the wonderful
qualities of this cool refreshing
color. It's evident that the upper-
classman thinks of green as some-
thing "slimy" and repulsive but
not so with the "Slime" himself I

The prospects for a winning foot-
ball team next fall arc greatly
brightened by the appearance of
the squad in spring training. Es-
pecially are the Freshmen candida-
tes for the varsity showing up the
lettermen. I
From the first of school we have
heard the upperclassmen tell us
that the thing of prime importance
In anything is the ability "to take
it". From the looks of things out
there on the football field we be-
lieve this year's crop of freshmen
have been duly educated by the
said upperclassmen and they have
learned not only how to take It but
also are fastly acquiring the art of
"dishing it out". Ask Stud. I
With such heftlesas Mule Stock-'
ton Pat Davis. Wendell Meek and
Fats Brian the line is due to be
greatly blistered.
From the appearance of a gruel-
ling scrimmage Monday it seems
thta freshmen candidates are in
line for every position of the var-
sity. In the backfield positions.
Red Bost flashy ball carrier and
defensive man promise to be a
"sophomore sensation." With such
elusive and shifty backs as the
"Mighty" Pool and Blackburn
thcie is bound to be a good deal
of bench- arming carried on- byj
the old war horses of the back-
field. Sing Sing Carter and Pinky-
Brooks are due to see a great deal
of scivice in the backfield positions
Mule Stockton had practically
cinched his tackle slat while Pat
Davis is competing with Foreman
for the other one. However Pat
may be shifted to end where the
strength is needed most. Fats
Brian is a sure bet at the center
Little Interest In
Varsity Track
i
Prospects For Next Year!
More Promising
McMurry is to enter a track
team in the conference meet for
the first time in several years.
While McMurry was in T. I. A.
A. track was not required as an
official sport but since the Alma
Mater has entered the Texas Con-
ference they are required to have
representatives at the conference
meet later in the month.
The prospects for a varsity squad
are very slim but the freshman
squad is very promising. It seems
that next year is McMurry's year
to make their debut as likely con-
tenders for the Texas Conference
Championship. With Sing Sing
Carter as the'principal dash man
the Freshmen are the proud pos-
sors of the fastest man in college.
However his specialty is the 440
yard dash and he has made ex-
ceptional time in this distance.
With such weight men as Pat
Davis and Mule Stockton many
points should be gained in their
division. Mule has already thrown
the big 16 pound ball around 46
feet. In case you don't know it
that is far enough to place in any!
college meet. - I
Dub Pool is a capable high
jumper and an exceptional broad
jumper. Pinkey Brooks is about
the best bet in the pole vault.
In case the upperclassmen
would wish a duel meet with the j
freshmen the fish would only bei
too glad to show their superolrity.
Watch the fish next year In track.
They are bound to bring in points
for the Alma Mater.
Squibs
Phillips
position as there is not a varsity
man that is able to compete with
him. He is big and is a smashing
player both on offence and de-1
fonse. Wcndall Meek is believed1
to be the making of one of the
greatest ends in the istory of the
college being big and fast he is
bound to be on hand to stop any-
thing. Clnistian and Stephenson are the
freshmen guards that are liable to
see a great deal of service.
Willard Henry and Jimmic Ree-
ves arc running the end position
on one of the teeams and are ready
to step in and fill the shoes of the
graduated varsity ends. Also Ex-
hard is a very valuable man as he
is to bV- utility man. He plays
either the backfield or end posi-
tion. Robert King seems to be one of
the most promising prospects of
the first year men. He is show-
ing exceptional ability for a man
who has never played the game
before. '
You may judge for yourself and
see why next year's team is doped
to be a sophomore ball team.
It is doubtful whether the letter-
men will ee active service with
such capable and fighting fresh-
men coming up tor the positions.
It was not an unusual occurance
for the freshman of the past sea-
son to beat the varsity's ears down
in a scrimmage.
Well when the McMurry Indians
line up for the opening kickoff of
next year's pigskin season do not
be surprised when you sec the ma-
jority of the squad to be made up
of this year's freshman division.
