It is good to hear that Michael Baskett got home
Friday after spending three days in a San Antonio
hospital for tests. And James Wienecke is home
this Friday after knee surgery at Kerrville this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. F. E. (Pete) Ebeling of Burnet vis-
ited with his aunt, Ino Tatsch, Monday on the way
home from the auction at Junction.
Raz Exotic Game Auction was a success this last
weekend, even with the lovely rain on Friday. A
star among the crowd was an 18-month old chimpan-
zie from Wichita Falls who was an adorable baby
still on a bottle. People were here from all over
the state, and other states—like Colorado.
The Presbyterian Women met Thursday afternoon at
the manse. Mildred McElroy had the study and
Leesa 'Dick' Bierschwale served.
The Lutheran Women met Thursday at 2 PM also.

Lela Vick is with the Troy Armke’s this week, as
her daughter, Kathy Armke had surgery last week
at Kerrville and is recuperating at home.
Mark and Becky Muehlbrad from Pflugerville were
visiting with Rev. Tim and Cathy Muehlbrad last
weekend.

was baptized at the Lutheran Church last Sunday.

Jennifer Wienecke and Diane Young.
It is good to have Clint Brown home again since
Thursday, following surgery at H.C.M. Hospital
at Fredericksburg. Mrs. Harvey Solbrig was able
to return home on Friday of last week following
surgery in San Antonio.
Pastor and Catherine Muehlbrad celebrated their
third wedding anniversary last week at the com-
mittee meeting for the 75th anniversary of the
Lutheran Church here in Harper.
David Whitworth entertained family and friends
with a fish fry on the Llano River last Saturday.
Remember Government Commodities will be here this
month on Tuesday, instead of Monday, at the Help
Center.
Thanks to all who helped decorate and distribute
poppies this weekend to remind us of our blessings
and to remember those who gave.
There will not be a church service at St. James
Lutheran on June 5, but the Unified Sunday
School will meet. The adult class will not.
Kelso Dabney has been home a couple of weeks af-
ter care at Breckenridge Rehabilitation Center
in Austin.

with some difficulties. However, he and Ernes-

active, friendly two-year-old foster child, Joey.
Congratulations to Jeff and Jan (nee Esquell)
Goldman of Kerrville on the birth of a son, Jody
Ryan Goldman, on april 25, 1988. The Goldmans
attended both grammar school and high school
graduation exercises, as th^ had a nephew, Shawn
Spaeth, and a niece, Tina Spaeth, graduating.
Our sympathy goes to Virginia Parker and family
in the loss of her mother, Mrs. Hugh Brown, who
passed away May 25 in San Antonio at the age of
87 years. The funeral was Friday at San Antonio,
with burial at Kerrville.
Our sympathy also to the family of Maggie Mae
Bode who died Friday at age 84. Services will be
at 1 PM Wednesday at the Methodist Church, Harper.
CELEBRATION
Mrs. Sarah Lange cele-
brated her 85th birth-
day on Saturday after-
noon, April 23rd, with
an open house from 4 to
6 PM at the Lutheran
Parish Hall.
The hall was beautifully
decorated with potted
plants, fresh cut flow-
ers and beautiful hand-
made quilts which had
been pieced and quilt-
ed by Mrs. Lange.
Approximately 100 rela-
tives and friends at-
tended the open house
hosted by her daughter,
Maxine Prestidge, sons
and spouses, Elmer and
Joyce Lange, and Kelton
and JoAnn Lange; grand-
children, Craig Lange,
Brenda and spouse,
Juan Brown, Lisa and
spouse, Richard Har-
rison, Steven and spouse;
Susan Lange; and her
three great grandchil-
dren, Austin and David
Lange and Kelly Brown.
The cake was an oblong
white confection deco-
rated with pink roses,
green leaves and in-
scribed with "Happy 85th
Birthday" in pink. The
cake table was laid with
a pink cloth, covered
with a white crocheted
cloth showing pink roses
on each corner, plus a
ceramic rose candle
holder in the center.
Brenda Lange served cake
and Lisa Harrison served
the punch from a silver
bowl.
Guests registered at a
small table laid with a '
green cloth, also cover-
ed with another white
crocheted cloth and had
an arrangement of fresh
cut flowers.
Mrs. Lange still does her
own house work and enjoys
piecing and quilting
quilts.

First, let me say, "It’s good to be back!" No, I
have not been ill nor have I been on vacation,
(our 13 month-old can confirm that!). Actually,
I’ve taken a columnist’s sabbatical due to a sit-
uation in which my freedom of the press was
threatened and violated. The situation has not
been cleared up, it is just "on hold"; but, for
the publications that are not involved, I shall
carry on.
Charles & Joy Talbert and LaVerne & Rick Boles
are hosting a 50th Anniversary and Open House
to honor their parents, Anita & Bob Ned Talbert
on Sunday, June 5th from 2 til 4:30 PM at the

tion to all of their friends and neighbors to
share this special event with them and request
no gifts, please.

Florence Walters, May 16; Leah Smith, May 18;
Troy Smith, May 11; Bobby Love, May 20; Becky
Hawkins, May 22; Lee Wetz, May 22; Zelpha
Dreiss, May 31. Happy Birthday to each of you!
Also, on May 14, Zelpha Dreiss hosted a 40th
birthday party for husband, Stan Dreiss, and
it was a delightful Spring evening for the bar-
b-q and fun enjoyed by many neighbors on the
lake at Glen Oaks Ranch.
Vernon & Patsy Hodges hosted a young couples
"fish fry and fellowship night" at their home
Saturday, May 21st. Everyone enjoyed both
the food and the company.
The Sunset Baptist Church will have its mon-
thly dinner-on-the-grounds on Sunday, June 5th,
following morning worship services. Everyone
is invited to the service and the fellowship.
Happy Birthday to Wanda Henderson, who celebrates
June 4th and to Sandra Parkhurst, who celebrates
June 7th.
Remember in your prayers this week Bro. Truett
White, who is soon to have surgery at the V.A.
Hospital in Kerrville.
THANK YOU
Thank you, Pastor Tim
Muehlbrad, relatives and
friends for your prayers
visits, carcfe, food and
concerns for Johanna and
me before, during and
after my hospital stay.
Also, Drs. Ray Smith and
Jack Swanzy, and the
nurses at Hill Country
Memorial Hospital for
their services. God
bless vou all.
VICTOR WENDEL
THANK YOU
A special thank you to
those who sent cards, well

ST. JAMES TO CELEBRATE
St. James Lutheran Church
will celebrate its 75th
Anniversary on June 12th
of this year with a spec-
ially planned service
and afternoon of fun.
The community is welcome
to take part in this
celebration, beginning
with the Worship Ser-
vice at 10 AM that
Sunday morning. An
afternoon music pro-
gram, plus reminisc-
ing all day, seeing
former pastors,
friends and even
relatives will be
in store.
If you would like
to attend and plan
to stay for the bar-
b-que meal, please
let the Church know,
specifically, Joyce
Lange, Harper, Tx.
We are looking for-
ward to a special
day!
An accident on the morn-
ing of May 28th, left
young Terry Fritz dazed
and bruised, but other-
wise unharmed, with the
exception of a broken
nose.
The utility pole he
struck with his auto
on Main St. was replac-
ed by CTEC later that
same morning with lit-
tle or no inconvenience
to electric customers.
We are pleased Terry
is home recuperating
and will be out again
soon.
