REMODELING
Suppose for a few mo-
ments that you are a
house, a house that is
alive, a thinking, feel-
ing, living house, and
that God has come to re-
model and rebuild you.
At first you can easily
grasp what He is doing.
He is repairing the leak
in the roof, removing
the rotten boards and
scraping off the old
paint. This is somewhat
painful, but we know
that it has to be done,
like taking medicine
when we are sick. Then,
however, God starts
tearing away things that
we like, our pride, our
pet peeves, and those
habits with which we
feel comfortable and are
familiar with. We want
to say to the Lord,
"Stop, you are going too
far!” We would be con-
tent if He would make us
a comfortable little
cottage but He wants to
make us a palace where
He can make His home:
"Anyone who loves me
will be true to my word,
and my Father will love
him; ’ we will come to
love him and make our
dwelling place with him"
(John 14:23).
Paul wrote to his dis-
ciple Timothy: "The
Spirit of God has given
us no cowardly spirit,
but one that makes us
strong, loving and wise"
(2 Timothy 1:7). There
is a certain courage or
toughness need to be a
follower of Christ.
There is a widespread
tendency today to look
for the easy, comfort-
able way. People are
always seeking easy
solutions for compli-
cated problems. People
who are overweight want
to lose some of that
weight, but don’t want
to exercise. So also, we
may want to remodel our
Christian lives, but we
don’t want to struggle
with our bad habits but
we don’t want to go
through the self-disci-
pline and prayer needed.
Does your life need a
remodeling job?
