WAR WHOOP MOTTO:
"l'or a Gieater McMurry"
B
r r r-r
-r!
This new year is not going to let the warm blooded
McMurrians foi gel that then; tstill exists outside Uic
covers ol the almanac a season called winter with cold
winds lain and ice. The balmy weather that "M) left
with us suddenly gae way to subfieczing temperatures
juid McMiiny students lound themselves in a cold white
woild last t.'k.
Outside it was a winur ondeilanl. lleavyi
warm wiaps wcie hauled out to go Hie paces of the cold-
est weather of the year. Besides the mittens booUs
furs and luy wooluis that apjx'ared on the campus
the .si vies ol winter togs were topped by one student
who was so despeiately cold when he stalled to school
that he yanked up his Ixd quilt and made out of it a pair
of U ouseis lor hmisell.
As many students hoveled aiound tadiators thoy
watched thiough the windows their classmates doing
clownish antics as they tried to walk on the .slippery
.sidewalks. But with all the fun ol skating on slip
pery walks the winter costumes and the beauty of the
ice if cold weatJier strikes again more than one lied
quilt may appear on the campus and an tmw anted fa-
milial ity with this season will Ih experience! by the
students.
That Certain Thing
A lew weeks ago a tiling man visited McMurry tor
the lirst time although ho has attended another Abi-
lene school ltn the past two eais. I'lHin leaving he
made the statement that the thing he liked most and
wh.it was almost iioiiexistint m his school was the
fnendlv attitude ol the lactilty toward the student body.
Oil hand perhaps it does not seem important one
way in tJie othei whether President Brabham pitches
washeis with .i gnoup ol boys and Dean Boger bums a
bite oil ol somebody else's bar of candy or not. Actu-
ally howt'M'i tin' InendTy atmosphere created by a
teacher has a eiy del.nite eft'ect upon eveiy student
that loines m contact with him it puts one in an atr
titudt ol mind that is conducive tp congeniality to en-
joyment and to study.
'lit io a.v students in McMurry who are enthusias-
tic ; ii u eviry objective and endeavor of the school
and thitv or four ears ago before they came here could
hardly enduie a forty five minute cbuss or a chapel iori-
od. Oiu faculty has the "edge" on most others in this
respect. Let us hope they always keep it.
Compensation h In Order
What has Mc.Mu.t.v done for you 7 Ale you better
prepaiid for life as a lesult of your associations with
McMuir.N ? Do oii ()e your fellow beings a little moiv
than bel'oie ou c.inie heieV Are you impressed by the
loyalty fellowship and good character found hen ? And
last but not least. ue ou interested in fuithoring the
inteiests of this our .school'.' If your answer to any
of the abo e tiiesfions is no then you will only be wast-
ing your tune bj leading farther.
You hue this school for what it is and for what it
lias lone for jou as is eudenced by your affirmation to
the questions alnive And since you love McMurry you
are theiefore desirous of showing ytr giatitude to lur.
A good way of doing this is to interest others in com-
ing here and sharing this institution with us. Explain
to them why you love it hero in such a way that they
will understand it and more than you Jhink will be nc-
nccomplishcd as result. U't's remember this and give it
a trial. We should always keep the interest of McMui-
ry forcmo.it in our heaits the same as she has for us.
