In 1930 we were dedicated
to keeping ahead
of the electric needs
of this area...
today we still are!
y
(But now, it’s at the rate
of $2,000,000 a week!)
In 1930 we ran this newspaper advertisement announcing an expenditure of $4.5 million
on capital expansion that year, because we anticipated record growth in the Houston-Gulf
Coast area.
We decided to use this old advertisement again to point out that our determination to
be prepared to meet each year’s greater power demands is as firm now as it has always been.
And our optimism then about the growth of this area has proved to be so well founded
that this fiscal year we must spend a record $109 million on new equipment and construction
to serve the multiplying power demands we project for the years just ahead!
This huge expansion program creates many new job opportunities directly, of course.
But even more importantly, it assures industry of plentiful power, and thus helps attract
new industries to this area.
Solid growth continues to be the prospect for the vital Houston-Gulf Coast. We believe
in it. And we’ll be ready for it—with an abundance of low-cost, dependable electric power.

___ Company are ample lor imme-
diate and normally increased demand by
the seventy-three communities we serve
Yet we are spending four and one-half
millions of dollars this year for expansion
and improvement of our service facilities
in order that we may supply continuous
adequate and economical electric service
to the farms, homes and industries we
serve, however great their demand
may be.
THE REASON IS OBVIOUS
We look for unprecedented growth
and prosperity for Houston and South
Texas. We are going to continue our-aid
in building and developing this rich and
highly diversified area of which we are
a part. The prosperity of Houston and
South Texas is reflected in the stability
of the companies using our service
While it is possible to indulge in
optimistic words without sincerity, our
optimism is based on hard facts and our
belief expressed in millions of dollars
