were indeed sorry to hear Sunday
of the sudden death of Dr. H. R.
Gerhardt, western field secretary
of the board of National Missions
in St. Louis.
Fire destroyed the garage of
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Vollering on
Sunday morning about 4 a.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lieke and
daughters visited Sunday after-
noon with Mr. and Mrs. George
Heider in Mathis.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hedtke
spent Sunday in Woodsboro with

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hanus and
family were dinner guests of the
Mrs. H. W. Adams was hostess
for the homecoming meeting of
the Dorcas Society at the Trinity
Lutheran Church last Friday. Sp-
ring flowers were used on the
linen laid table around which the
guests sat. Mrs R A Adams
welcomed the guests and sang
“May We Thy Precepts Fulfill.”
Mrs. Phil Ludwig gave the topic
on “Your Child’s Personal Rela-
tions with God.” Mrs. G S Fos-
ter gave a piano solo and Mrs.
Edwin Schneider gave a poem.
Mrs. Adams gave the past his-
tory of the society. After Mrs.
Ed Kieschnick gave a poem Rev.
Graamann dismissed the group
with prayer. Sandwiches, pie,
coffee and cold drinks were served
to Mmes. Gus Adams, Otto Lueck-
emeyer, W. E Veselka, Ed Raab,
Edwin Schneider, R. E. Marbur-
ger, R. A. Adams, Ed Kieschnick,
Phil Ludwig, B. S Foster and
the following visitors: Mmes. G.

D. W. Taylor motored to Bee-
ville Monday on business.

Back At Work
District Clerk J. L. Hamilton
was able to be back in his office
on Monday morning for a while
for the first time since flu sent
him to the hospital for a 17-da/
period in January.
Hamilton found the climbing of
steps on Monday tired him mere
than he had thought it would,
and he was heard to express a
desire that the proposed elevator
for the courthouse be installed at
an early date.

A new educational unit has just
been recently completed and will
be dedicated. This day will also
have another significant note with
it. The 25th anniversary of the
completion of the present church
will also be observed.
The speaker for this special oc-
cassion will be Rev. R. F. Kuret-
sch of Geronimo, Texas. He will
represent the board of national
Missions of the Evangelical and
Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Menke
and children of Corpus Christi
were guests of Mrs. Sid Ferrel
Sunday.
Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Brown over the weekend were
Mrs. Brown’s nephew, Bill Frye
of Fort Worth, who is a student
at Rice Institute, and Miss Jackie
Letourneau of St. Louis.
Mr. and Mrs. Olan Brown and
daughter from Beeville were
guests of Mrs. E. J. Whitworth.
Also visiting in her home was her
daughter Mrs. Claude Carmichael
of San Antonio.

after spending two weeks with her
sister Mrs. Pete Pest in Iran,
Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reed were
in San Antonio several days this
week as guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Dorris and daughters.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sharp of
Beeville and Mrs. and Mrs. R. C.
Saylers were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil Horton Sunday.
Stanley Fry has nearly 1000
acres of Hubem clover that he is
using for grazing. Fry made the
statement that it is “really good
stuff,” and it is the backbone to
the cattle industry in South Texas.
He hopes to get grazing from it
for several months yet. Fry’s place
is near Mathis.

Mrs. Emil Mengers was
ess to the Hpme Demonstration
Club at the March meeting. Twelve
members were present and after
the business meeting Mrs. H. W.
McNeill gave a Timely Topic on
Hobbies, wich was very nice. The
meeting was turned over to Mrs.
Bellows and she gave a demon-
stration on Foundation Garments
and it was very interesting. ,
Coffee, cake, cookies, cheese
ritz were served. The next meet-
ing will be held at Mrs. Edwin
Mengers April 14th.

Wallace Steele, 8 miles south-
east of Sinton, is a new cooperator
with the San Patricio Soil Con-
servation District. He has a drain-
age problem that will be corrected
this fall. He also has a problem
with a large drainage ditch which
is beginning to make finger gullies
into his cultivated land. He plans
to control these gullies by plant-
ing K. R. bluestem around them.
