Owen-Sunderman
Marriage Vows
Are Given
In a candlelight ceremony at
the First Methodist Church of
Mathis Saturday evening Miss Bar-
bara Jean Owen became the bride
of Dr. Frank T. Sunderman of
Sinton. Elder E. J. Norman of
Wellington performed the double
ring ceremony.
Miss Mary Ruth Kelly of Gon-
galez was the organist. She ac-
companied J. D. Carlisle of Or-
ange Grove when he sang “Ah
Sweet Mystery of Life” and “Be-
cause.”
The altar was covered with fern
and flanked by baskets of pink
gladioli. Pink candles lined the
top of the altar and palm trees
formed the background.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father. Her gown was of
blush pink lace and tulle fashioned
with a turn back collar and tucked
yoke bottoned down the front. The
skirt >vas accordiah pleated nylon
tulle over acetate taffeta. Her
fingertip veil of illusion fell from
a half hat of blush satin which
was bordered with pearls. Her
bouquet was of pink roses out-
lined with pink Frenched carna-
tions.
Miss Barbara Crowe of Olney
was maid of honor and Miss Beth
Thornton of Edroy and Miss Carol
Jo Owen of Mathis, niece of the
bride, were bridesmaids. Their
dresses were of pale lavender
tulle over taffeta styled with fitted
bodices and full skirts. They wore
lavender Frenched carnations in
their hair and carried bouquets of
purple asters and orchid carna-
tions.
Dr. Harlan Raley of Dublin wasj
best man. Ushers were Dr. David i
Moore of Corpus Christi, Dr. War-
ren Binkley of Falfurrias, Leo
Owen of Sinton and Joe Owen of
Mathis, the latter two of whom
are brothers of the bride.
A reception was held on the
church lawn after the wedding.
Decorations included large baskets
of pink gladioli and carnations.
The bridesmaid’s bouquet cen-
tered the groom’s table from
which was served the pink wedd-
ing ring cake. Pink cake was
served at the children’s table
which was centered with a brides-
maid’s bouquet. The bride’s table
was laid with an Irish linen cloth
and decorated with the bride’s
bouquet. The three-tiered cake was
topped with a miniature bridle and
groom, and was iced in pink with
pink sugar spun roses. The punch
was poured from a silver punch
bowl.
Mrs. G. W. Crauch of Robstown
and Mrs. Dan R. Baen of Mathis
served at the 'bride’s table and
Mrs. Eai’l Sunderman, of Fort
Worth, and Mrs. Stanley Hutson
of Falfurrias served at the groom’s
table, Mrs. C. E. Owen, Miss
Elaine Nelson, and Miss Dedie
Covington served at the children’s
table, and Mrs. Joe Owen was at
the register.
Others in the house party were
Mrs. Leo Owen of Sinton, Mrs.
Bill Dorris of San Antonio, Mrs.
H. W. Tobin, Mrs. Pat King of
Dallas, Mrs. G. B. Hutchison, Mrs.
W C Young, Mrs. Bill Hender-
son, Mrs. Walter Leber, Sr., Mrs.
Frank Dehnisch, Mrs. Bob Deh-
nisch. Miss Mary Jo Hollon and
Mrs. Jess Hollon.
Among the out-of-town guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Terry Mathew
and Mrs. Pete Mathew of Yoakum;
Mr. and Mrs. Pete NBaethge of
Kingsville, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Miller and Mrs. Allen Stone of
Corpus Christi, Mr. and Mrs. Har-
old Miller and Mrs. Allen Stone of
Corpus Christi, Mr. and Mrs. Koen
Reed of Austin, and Mr. and Mrs.
ILeland Chven of Bishop.
After a wedding trip to the hill
country the couple will be at
home in Sinton. For travel the
bride chose a gray suit with red
velvet and black accessories and
a corsage of sweetheart roses.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs J. B. Owen, Sr. She
graduated from Southwest Texas
State Teachers College and is em-
ployed in the Sinton Public
Schools.
Dr. Sunderman is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Sunderman
of Putnam. He graduated from
North Texas State College and
Baylor University College of Den-
tistry.
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Elkins visit-
ed last week in Belton with his
mother, Mrs. Maggie Elkin.
MRS. FRANK HENZE
IS HONORED ON
BIRTHDAY MONDAY
Mrs. Robert Lotspeich and Mrs.
J. A Patteson entertained for
Mrs. Franklin Henze with a Coke
party last Monday in observance
of Mrs. Henze’s birthday.
The informal gathering was held
at the home of Mrs. Lotspeich
with the following friends making
up the guest list: Mrs. Eddie
Rucker, Mrs. Bill Armond, Mrs.
Alvin Flury, Mrs. Edna Faye
Knippa, Mrs. Ben Maiketter, Mrs.
Walter Humble, Mrs. Weldon Puck-
ett, and Mrs. Paul Chambers.
Each presented the honoree with
a gift.
MISS OWEN HONORED
AT BREAKFAST AT
DEHNISCH HOME
Mrs. Frank Dehnisch, Mrs. Bob
Dehnisch, and Mrs. Oran Sides
entertained last Thursday morning
at the home of Mrs. Bob Dehnisch
with an informal pre-wedding
breakfast in honor of Miss Bar
bara Jean Owen. Miss Owen was
married, to Dr. Frank Sunderman
Saturday.
The three course breakfast was
served from card tables in the
living room. The coffee cake was
served in individual colored cup
cakes and in the center of each
was planted a dwarf zinnia to re-
semble flowers growing in pots.
These served as the table decora-
tions.
Those enjoying the pre-nuptial
affair were Mrs. E. E. Sunderman
of Putman, Mrs. Leo Owen of
Sinton, Mrs. Joe Thomas of Sin-
ton, Miss Beth Thornton of Ed-
roy, Mrs. J. R. Dehnisch, Sr.,
Mrs. J B. Owen, Sr. Mrs. Joe
Owen, Miss Charlotte Porter, Miss
Elaine Nelson, Miss Dedie Coving-
ton, Miss Elizabeth Porter.
The honoree was presented with
a lovely gift.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Tiemann and
children, Allan and Anne, returned

TO REGULAR STUDY
The Women’s Missionary Society
of the Baptist Church met Mon-
day afternoon at the home of
Mrs. Glenn Dorris for the'ir regu-
lar weekly study. At this time,
Mrs.- A. A. Palmer brought an
interesting lesson from a book
“Sacrifice and Song”.
After the meeting adjourned, re-
freshments were served to Mrs.
Johnny Crouch, Mrs. J. W Nelson.
Mrs. Rose Hollon, Mrs. Martha
Janek, Mrs. August Koepsel,
Mrs. Frank Dehnisch, Mrs. A. A.
Palmer, Mrs. B. S. Whitaker, and
the hostess, Mrs. Dorris
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Whitfield
and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Schu-
bert spent the week-end fishing at
Copano Bay near Rockport.
TRAINING UNION
MEETS MONDAY AT
DORRIS HOME
The junior Training Union met
Monday afternoon for a weiner
roast and picnic in the patio of
the Glen Dorris home. Present
were the following members:
Jimmy and Benny Crouch, Beverly
and Richard Henderson, Rebecca
Hutchens, Eilene Turner, Judy
Janek, Allen Ray and Bill Palmer,
Re Caffall, and Karen Sue Dorris.
Two guests were also present,
Charles Crouch and Frankie Deh-
nisch. Mrs. A. H. Hanshaw was
the leader of the group and was
assisted by Karen Sue Dorris.
Mrs. S. E. Palmer of Houston
is spending a few days with her
son, the Rev. A. A. Palmer, pastor
of the Baptist Church here.
