Back-to -School Picnic
Planned for Volunteers
Volunteois had its first meeting
for the new school year on Mon-
day September 17 1002 John Ed-

Plans weio made for a picnic
on September 29 1902 to be held
nt the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Geoige Steinman. Dates for the
picnic will be optional. Any girls
wanting to belong to Volunteers
who want to go to the picnic
should contact Susan Everett or
Jo Ann Tomlinson.

Volunteers is a Christian serv
ice club on McMurry campus. It
is for any girl who plans to go
into full time Christian service
or who wants to serve the Lord
while she is in college.
Some of the Volunteers pro-
jects are the following: selling
pastry in the dorms on Thursday
nights to earn money to send to
missionaries; visiting the State
School every Thursday afternoon
to lend their assistance in the
women's ward.
Any girl on McMurry campus
who would like to join Volun-
teers is invited to our next meet-
ing: Monday September 24 1902
from 12:15 to 12:45 in the West
Lounge of the Cafeteria.
Inquiries about Danforth Grad-
uate Fellowships for college
teaching careers worth up to $12-
000 are invited Lloyd D. Huff
chairman Division of Letters and
Languages announced today.
The fellowships offered by the
Danforth Foundation of St. Louis
Missouri are open to male col-
lege seniors or recent graduates
preparing for a career of teach-
ing counseling or administrative
work at the college level. Appli
cants may be planning to major
in any field of study common to
the undergraduate liberal arts
and sciences curriculum at the
American graduate school of their
choice but should not have al-
ready undei taken graduate work.
Nominations close October 28.
Approximately 100 fellowships
will be awarded to outstanding
candidates nominated by Liaison
Officers of acci edited colleges and
universities in the United States
this year. Nominees will be
judged on intellectual promise
and personality integrity gen
uine interest in religion and high
potential for effective college
teaching.
Winners will be eligible for up
to four years of financial assist-
ance with an annual maximum

tion at an annual conference on

ing to teach and 2G7 more al-
ready teaching in some 150 col-
leges in this country and in 20
institutions abroad. Danforth Fel-
lowships may be held for life
with certain benefits after com-
pletion of graduate study such as
financial assistance to attend ed-
ucational conferences.
Students may hold a Danforth
Fellowship concurrently with
other appointments such as Ford
Fulbnght National Science
Rhodes Woodrow Wilson. Win-
ners will become Danforth Fel-
lows without stipend until these
other awards lapse.
The Danforth Foundation one
of the nation's 10 largest educa-
tional Foundations was founded
in 1927 by the late William H.
Danforth St. Louis businessman
and philanthropist. The Founda-
tion's primary aim is to strength-
en higher education through its
own programs of fellowships and
workshops and through grants to
colleges universities and other
educational agencies.
