WEDDING OCCURS
SATURDAY NIGHT
Miss Elizabeth Ann Porter be-
came the bride of Lt. Thomas
Wade Poke of Fort Worth Satur-
day a* the First Methodist Church.
The Rey.. W. S.; Highsmith, pas-
tor of,, .the Kenedy Methodist
1 Church, performed the double ring
xites. Assisting was the Rev. J.
32. Mack, minister of the local
church.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Porter, and
the groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert B. Duke of Fort
x Worth.
Ferns and chrysanthemums tied
with pink ribbon streamers cover-
ed the altar. Floor candelabra
holding pink tapers, fern trees,
and large baskets of white mums,
pink gladiolus and fern were in
the background. The family pews
were marked with flowers and
ribbons.
, J. D. Carlisle was soloist. Or-
gan music was played by Mrs.
Charles Beckendorff.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a dress of
Chantilly lace over nylon tulle
and bridal satin. The smoothly
molded bodice of lace was de-
signed with a neckline forming a
self-collar, • standing high on the
sides, with a deep V front.
Full length sleeves formed points
over the wrists. The bouffant lace
skirt was fashioned with three
tiers in front, each trimmed with
crystal pleated nylon tulle. It
joined the bodice in deep points,
falling to a chapel length train
in back.
The head piece was a Juliet
cap of sequins and pearls, hold-
ing a fingertip veil of illusion.
The bride wore her grandmo-
ther’s wedding ring on her right
hand and carried a white orchid
on a white Bible.
The maid of honor was Miss
Ruth Ann Edwards of Bellaire.
Miss Mary Erin Porter served
her sister as bridesmaid. Nancy
Jane Clark of Dallas, cousin of
the bridegroom, and Mary El-
len Porter, the bride’s niece,
were flower girls.
The - maid of honor’s rose-color-
ed dress was of Chantilly lace
and nylon tulle, trimmed with a
satin cummerbund and sash. The
bridesmaid’s dress was identical
in a lighter shade of rose. The
flower girls’ dresses duplicated
the bridesmaid’s.
The attendants wore white glov-
es and bandeau to match their
dresses. The honor attendant and
s bridesmaid carried bouquets of
American Beauty roses, and the
flower girls, baskets of rose tulle
trimmed with roses.
Robert B. Duke served his son
as best man. Bob Duke, the
groom’s brother, was groomsman.
Ushers were Billy Highsmith of
Kenedy, Richard Miller of Oran-
ge Grove, and Thomas Porter and
Charles Porter, brothers of the
bride.
A reception at the church parlor
followed the ceremony.

HAS BIRTHDAY
PARTY TUESDAY
Dickie Greenwood was honored
on his tenth birthday Tuesday
with a party given by his mo-
ther, Mrs. Milton Greenwood.
The traditional cake was dev-
il’s food with white icing, with
Happy Birthday written on it.
Cold drinks were also served.
Attending were Patsy Stridde,
Terry Mengers, Marilyn Humble,
Sugie Westover, Carol Jo Owen,
Joyce Leber, De Ann Cabaniss,
Shirley Thiele, Jeanne Wehmeyer,

Alternating at the bride’s table
and register were Miss Charlotte

Miss Dede Covington, Miss Karol
Freeman, Miss La Rue Henderson
and Mrs. Davis Hensley.
Mrs. R. D. Miller, Mrs. W. S.
Highsmith, and Mrs. John C. Clark
served at the groom’s table.
The bride’s table was decorated
in pink. The three-tiered cake was
trimmed in sugar spun pink roses.
The bridegroom’s table was
covered with white linen and cen-
tered with a horn of plenty. The
double ring cake was trimmed
with green and yellow.
Other members of the house-
party were Mrs. G. B. Hutchison,
Mrs. J. E. Mack, Mrs. H. W.
Tobin, Mrs. Thomas Porter, Mrs.
Walter Leber, Mrs. W. A. Guy-

For traveling the bride chose
a beige suit with brown acces-
sories and a white orchid corsage.
After their wedding trip, the cou-
ple will make their home in Tuc-
son, Ariz., where Lt. Duke will
be stationed.
The bride was graduated from
Mathis High School and South-
west Texas State Teachers Col-
lege at San Marcos. She has
been a teacher in the Pasadena
South Houston public school. He
is a graduate of Paschal High
School and Texas A. & M. Col-
lege.

ENGAGEMENT
TOLD BY PARENTS
The engagement, and approach-
ing marriage of Miss Jo Ann
Hensley to L. C. Hennig, Jr.,
has been announced by her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Hens-
ley of Tuleta.
Her fiance is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Hennig of Mathis.
A wedding for December 11 has
been planned.
Mrs. Clemons Leads
C. W. F. Program Tuesday
Mrs. Bill Clemons was program
leader at the Tuesday meeting
of the Christian Women’s Fellow-
ship at the First Christian Church.
The program topic was “In the
Heart of the City.” Mrs. Wilson
Rackley gave the devotional.
Others at the meeting were Mrs.
A. B. Coffin, Mrs. Arthur Crook,
Mrs. George Brown, and Mrs.

Ola Gary left Saturday to visit
with relatives in San Marcos over
the week-end.
Mrs. Winnie Wooten of Ingle-
side visited recently with her sis-
ter, Mrs. Lula Whitely, and at-
tended the P-TA carnival.
Mrs. C. A. Mengers, Mrs. Ar-

Schubert attended the Women’s
Guild Rally held in Corpus Chris-

Congratulations are extended to
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jostes upon
the arrival of a daughter, Mau-
reen Elizabeth, born Nov. 1st in
the Mathis Hospital.
The Youth Fellowship of the
Peace Evangelical and Reformed
Church will be host t,o the Orange
Grove fellowship on Nov. 16. Miss
Stroetker, a field worker from
Philadelphia, will be present for
the meeting.

Corpus Christi Meet
Four members of the local Meth-
odist Youth Fellowship, accom-
panied by Mrs. Gordon Brown
and Mrs. J. E. Mack, attended a
sub-district MYF meeting at St.
Luke’s Methodist Church in Cor-
pus Christi Sunday.
Attending from Mathis were
Carolyn Caddel, Maedene Maed-
gen, Jerry Happner, and Dixie
Lee Davenport.
Ernest Williams of Edroy was
the main speaker. He told of his
trip to Germany t,aking over cat-
tle for CROP.
The group decided to adopt as
their project for the year to raise
money to help educate a young
Cuban student who wants to be-
come a doctor.
Jr. Girl’s Auxilliary
Meets Tuesday Evening
“Faithful or Unfaithfull” was
the program subject at the meet-
ing of the Junior G. A.’s Tuesday
at the home of Mrs. Glenn Dor-
ris.
Connie Gunn, Judy Janak, Char-
lotte Wren, Linda Griffith, Karen
Sue Dorris, and Carol Ann Ed-
mondson were on the program.
Other attending were Patricia
Buffington, Kathleen Stone, and
Beverly Henderson.

Meets For Program
The Cenizo Garden Club met
last week at the home of Mrs.
Allie Holmes, with Mrs. Milton
Greenwood as co-hostess.
The guest speaker was Miss
Bonham of Skidmore. Her topic
was flowers.

G. A. Meeting Wednesday
Re Caffall was program lead-
er at the Wednesday meeting of
the intermediate G. A.’s at the
home of Mrs. M. Turner.
The program was on Southern
Rhodesia. Mrs. B. S. Whitaker
was the adult leader. All mem-
bers were present, and Mrs. Tur-
ner had the group as her supper
guests.
Attending were Rebecca Hut-
chens,, Re Caffall, Mary Daubert,
Jo Ann Huntsinger, Donna Love-
less, Katie Griffith, and Eileen
Turner.
Mrs. Freeman Presides
At W. S. C. S. Meeting
Mrs. C. N. Freeman presided
at the monthly business meeting
of the Women’s Society of Chris-
tian Service Tuesday at the First
Methodist Church.
Mrs. J. E. Mack led the open-
ing prayer. The devotional was
given by Mrs. George Hutchinson.
Committee reports were given
by Mrs. L. T. Porter, Mrs. Mil-
by Porter, Mrs. Otto Winsauer,
Mr's. J. J. Baker, Mrs. Mack,
and Mrs. W. D. McNeill.
Mrs. Baker served refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Burk and
daughters spent the week-end in
Sintpn visiting his brother, Er-
nest Burk.
Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Moore and
daughter of Alice, Lloyd Magee
of Corpus Christi, and Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Bluntzer and son, who
live near San Patricio, were Sun-
day visitors at the home of Mrs.
Celestia Dodson. Mrs. Bluntzer
and Carl Jr. also visited Mrs.
Dodson Wednesday.
Mrs. Fred Crane of Sinton spent
the day Wednesday with her sis-
ter, Mrs. M. A. Henrichson.
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Lockman
visited Mr. and Mrs. Pat Devaney
in Corpus Christi Sunday, Mon-
day and Tuesday. On Wednesday
Mrs. Lockman visited her son,
John, in Orange Grove.

nant over the week-end were Mr.
and Mrs. Henry New and chil-
dren of Seguin and Mrs. Marjorie
Collins and son of San Antonio.
John Hinnant of Alice left Wed-
nesday after spending a week with
the Hinnants. A Thursday visitor
at the Hinnant home was Jimmy
Sutherland of Kenedy.

with relatives Tuesday through
Thursday.

ter, Dianna, were in Alice Satur-
day. Tijiey visited with Mr. and
Mrs. A1 Harper and daughters.

day for Marion where she will
