NICHOLS’ CELEBRATE
45TH ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Nichols
celebrated their 45th wedding an-
niversary last Saturday at the
■home of their son, Buck Nichols
in Alice.
Mr. and Mrs. Ponder grass, the
Uochols’s daughter, and their two
children, Willie Mae and Willie
Winford, were also present.

CHURCH TUESDAY "
The Women’s Society of Christ-
ian Service of the Methodist Ch-
urch met Tuesday afternoon at
the church for their regular bus-
iness and educational meeting. The
topic was “Laborers for Christ”.
Mrs. B. N. Freeman presided
at the business meeting and Mrs.
L,. T. Porter gave the devotional.
/Mrs. Charles Brown was program
chairman with the title of her
part on the program being “Am-
ericans at Work”. Mrs. George B.
Hutcheson gave a talk on “Why
Workers Go to the City” and
“‘Americans on the Move”.
Others on the program were
Mrs. L. T. Porter, “How Work
if Different Today”; Ms. J. J.
Baker,” The Outreach of Fellow-
ship”; and Mrs. O. W. Winsauer.
“Church in Labor Relations”.
Twelve members were present
with Mrs. J. L. Jones as hostess.
W. M. U. CIRCLES MEET
MONDAY AFTERNOON
The Alice Hart Circle of the
Women’s Missionary Society of the
Baptist Church met Monday after-
noon at the home of Mrs, Glen
Dorris. Mrs. A. A. Palmer con-
ducted the Bible study after which
refreshments were served to Mrs,
August Koepsel, Mrs. Esther Har-
din, Mrs. B. W. Whitaker, Mrs.
J. W. Crouch, Mrs. Palmer and
the hostess.
The Lottie Hart Circle met
Monday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. Frank Miller, who conducted
the Bible Study. Refreshments
were served to Mrs. T. H. Ramey,
Mrs. Jess Hollon, Mrs. H. M.
Janicke, Mrs. J. H. Boatwright,
and her house guest, Mrs. Hender-
son, and the hostess.
The Women’s Missionary Society
met Monday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Garland Hollon with Mrs.
J. M. Edmondson conducting the
Bible lesson. Refreshments were
served to Mrs. Bill Nelson, Mrs.
Marvin Edmondson, Mrs. Bob
Dehnisch, Mrs. F. B. Hickman,
and the hostess.
KAREN DORRIS HAS
PARTY FRIDAY
Karen Sue Dorris entertained a
group of friends with a hobo
party last Friday afternoon to
celebrate her 10th birthday, which
occurred on July 4th.
Her mother, Mrs. Glen Dorris,
supervised the games, which were
played outdoors and the supper,
which was cooked over a camp
fire. Favors were fashioned from
colored cane whistles with brown
paper sacks tied on the end to
resemble a hobo’s knap-sack.
Gordon Hickam was judged as
the best dressed hobo and Monty
Gorbet won second place.
The group attended the theater
after the party.

the proud parents of an 8 pound,
2 ounce boy born Monday at 6:20
in Spohn Hospital, Corpus Christi.
He was named William Greer

Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Galloway
and Mrs. John Fusselman.
M. Y. F. MEETING
IS HELD MONDAY
The Methodist Youth Fellowship
held its regular monthly meeting
at the church last Monday night
with Mrs. Bill Watson and Mrs.
Bill McNeill as hostess.
Various games were played af-
ter which refreshments were ser-
ved to the following members:
Mary Henderson, Betsy Hill
Elaine Maedgen, Maedene Maed-
gen, Carolyn Caddell, Bobbie Dun-
can, George Aldridge, Jan Sides,
and three guests, Bubba Stone
Stanley Harbin and Jan Nesbitt.

MRS. HUNT GIVES
BOOK REVIEW WED.
Mrs. H. C. Hunt from Gregory
presented a review of the book
“House on Earth” before a meet-
ing of the Women’s Missionary
Union of the Baptist Church last
Wednesday afternoon.
She was introduced by Mrs. B.
S. Whitaker. Mrs. Hunt was ac-
companied by Mrs. Homer Hunt,
also of Gregory.
Mrs. A. A. Palmer served punch
and cake to the 35 who attended
the meeting.
Bomers Attend
Family Reunion Saturday
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Bomer and
Kathy and Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Bomer, Jimmy Jerry and Rickey
were Mathis guests at a family
reunion and dinner party Satur-
day in Hamilton where Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Collier entertained.
Others present were Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Range and Mrs. Vir-
gil Wilburn and son from Bee-
ville, Mr. and Mrs. Claude
Lansford, Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Slaton and Mrs. Sam Glasser, all

TO DINNER THURSDAY
Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Gregorcyk
and sons, Allen and Randy, were
hosts last Thursday night at a
chicken barbecue and family party
at the lake.
It was Randy’s first birthday,
and to give the occasion a festive
tough, home made ice cream and
birthday cake were served.

receive sealed bids until 11:30 a.m.
o’clock, Central Standard Time,
Saturday, July 25, 1953, at the
office of the City Secretary, at
which time bids will be publicly
opened and read aloud for fur-
nishing all materials and doing all
the work in connection with the
installation of electrical controls
for a water pump.
The work to be done consisted of
furnishing and installing:
One 200 ampere, 3 pole, 575
volt safety switch
One Reduced voltage starter,
Size 4for 60 HP, 440 volt,
3 phase motor
together with appurtenant
items of work.

contract documents may be ex-
amined at the office of the City
Secretary, Mathis, Texas, or in
the office of Thomas B. Donoho
and Associate, Consulting Engin-
eers, 811 Travis Building, §an

plication.
Bids must be submitted on the
proposal form furnished by the
Engineer. Each bid shall be ac-
companied by proposal guaranty
in the amount of five (5) per
cent of the total price bid. Any
bid received after closing time
will be returned unopened.
Bidders are expressly notified
that price bid will not be the
sole criterion considered in award-
ing the contract. The Owner re-
serves the right to consider the
experience, reputation and com-

Charles Knolle, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Knolle, underwent
an appendectomy Monday after-
noon at Mathis Hospital. His con-
dition is fine, as reported Wed-
nesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Troy Votaw and
Joyce Ann of Austin and formerly
of Mathis, visited her sister and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coffin
last week. Mrs. Votaw entered
a Corpus Christi hospital for a
major operation Friday morning.
She is reported recovering rapidly
and will spend a few days with
he sister beginning today before
returning to Austin. Mr. Votaw re-
turned to Austin early this week.
Mrs. Coffin kept Joyce Ann all
week and let her visit her friends
here.

receive sealed bids until 11:30
a. m. o’clock, Central Standard
Time, Saturday, July 25, 1953, at

The pump shall be a single
stage, double suction, centrifugal
