Talkin' Texan
Don Henrich '68
TAA PresidentDear Tarleton Alumni:
As president of the Tarleton Alumni Assciation, I've been fortunate to meet
and work with some of the finest friends Tarleton has. This position has allowed
me to see how strong the Tarleton bond is between those who may have
graduated in the '20s and the ones who are attending now. Two of Tarleton's
best friends have died recently, and though they may not be around to pitch
in and help, their contributions to the University will be remembered for a long
time.
T.C. Granberry '29 and Willard "Burr" Reavis '41 were two men who were
grateful for what Tarleton had done for them and were always ready to pay
back that gratitude. Mr. Granberry died in January and Mr. Reavis died in
November.
Burr made a major contribution in painting and donating the print of the Hall
of Presidents to be used by the Tarleton Alumni Association as one of its
Century Club membership benefits. This watercolor is of the Hall of Presidents,
and if you look closely, the man in the foreground with the cane and flat-
brimmed hat is Burr, himself -- the returning alumnus. He and Sarah '41 were
familiar faces on campus as they visited and supported many events over the
years.
T.C. was serving on the Association board of directors at the time of his death.
He had retired to Stephenville after serving as a bank official in Dublin for many
years. Christi Lucksinger, former TAA director, said T.C. became involved in
the Campaign for Excellence in1984 and chaired a division. He gave tirelessly
of his time and expertise to the Association and the University. He joined the
Association board in 1986 and was a regular face at Alumni events.
Tarleton is about people, be they cowboys, biologists, bankers or architects.
Being president of our Alumni Association has offered me the opportunity to
see this first-hand. So as we prepare to undertake the '90s, let's try to emulate
these two gentlemen and do all we can to serve and support our University.SHOW YOUR PURPLE PRIDE!
