Where they are and what they're doingFRANZ T. PITTMAN ('70) has
joined the Delta County Soil and
Water Conservation District at
Cooper. He is a native of Rising
Star and began his SCS career in
Hamilton. He held positions in
Cameron, Stanton, and Hubbard
prior to his appointment at
Cooper. Pittman and his wife, the
former Sara Howard of Rising
Star, are both TSU graduates. She
holds a B.S. degree in elementary
education. They have one son,
Mark.
DON RUSSELL ('52) is the new
principal at Dublin High School.
He is a graduate of Dublin High
School and received his degree at
Sam Houston State University
after transferring from Tarleton.
He also completed his master's at
Sam Houston and had previously
taught at Hamilton and
Brownwood. He was in private
business in Dublin one year prior
to his recent appointment. He and
his wife, Mary, have three
children, Brenda Arnold, who
lives in Kansas, Rene, a 1977
Dublin graduate, and Gary who
will be a junior this year.
BOBBY JOE WADDELL ('74)
assumed duties of Range
Conservationist vwth the ASCS at
Roby in June. He received both
bachelor's and master's degrees
from Tarleton after attending
Texas A&M. He and his wife have
a son, Kid Thomas, and were
living in Rochelle prior to his new
appointment.
SUSAN WARREN ('76) has been
employed by Brownwood High
School to assist in developing an
athletic program for girls. She
served as assistant coach at
Weslaco High School last year and
helped produce the state's third
ranked Class AAA basketball
team. She will be head coach for
girls basketball at Brownwood.
Susan is a graduate of Dublin High
School.
RANDALL C. WARD ('77) has
been employed as a soil
conservationist in San Angelo. He
worked for the Stephenville SCS
for a short time before receiving
the San Angelo assignment. Ward
will assist the cooperators in
Concho, North Concho, and
Eldorado Divide Conservation
District.
BILL WARD ('73) received his
degree in dentistry from Baylor
College of Dentistrymin June.
DOHN H. BARHAM ('66) has
joined the Louisiana State
University Press as business
manager. He was formerly
business manager of the
University of Texas Press and was
in property management in
Austin.
ALVIN EDWIN ALLISON ('71),
MACK E. COOK ('68), and
SAMMYE LOU SWINSON ('74)
received degrees at the May
graduation of Southwest Baptist
Theological Seminary in Fort
Worth.REGGIE GENE ROBBINS ('75)
has been recognized as one of the
"Outstanding Young Men of
America" for 1977. He resides in
Sulphur Springs where he is vice
president of the Production Credit
Associationn. He is married to the
former Brenda Manning of Brady.
Robbins is a graduate of
Goldthwaite High School.
MIKE REEVES ('73) has become
a partner in two pharmacy
operations in Clifton. After
attending Tarleton, Reeves
graduated from the University of
Texas College of Pharmacy in
1973. He had formerly been
employed in Hico, Waco, and
Clifton.
BONNIE LAUDAN DECKER
('69) has been named "Girl of the
Year" by her sorority Beta Sigma
Phi Exemplar Chapter, Xi Nu Mu
in Burleson. Bonnie won
outstanding member awards in
1974 and was Valentine
Sweetheart in 1975. In addition
to serving on various committees
in the sorority, she is also a
second grade teacher at Alvarado
Elementary School. Her husband,
Bobby, is a coach at Burleson
High School. Bonnie is a native of
Austin and a graduate of Austin
Lanier.
SCOTT PATTERSON ('75) has
been elected vocational ag teacher
at Santa Anna High School. He
holds both B.S. and M.S. degrees
from Tagleton and had previously
taught at Springtown eight years.
The Hico native and his wife,
Barbara, have three children,
Jodie, Jeannie, and Cynthia.
BRYAN BIERSCHWALE ('73)
has joined the Fredericksburg unit
of Lutheran Mutual Life
Insurance Company as district
agent. He received a B.S. in
agricultural education from
Tarleton and was a dairy inspector
with the Texas Department of
Agriculture four years. He and his
wife, the former Carrie Barsch,
have one son, Todd.
THOMAS E. TOLESTON ('73)
has been promoted to first
lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
After finishing at Tarleton he
received an M.S. degree from
Whitworth College, Spokane,
Wash. He is currently stationed at
Fairchild AFB, Wash. as a social
actions officer.
RABY A. ALFORD ('41) has
retired after 35 years with the
ASCS. He served as ASCS County
Executive Director in Bell County
for 26 years. He and his wife have
moved to their ranch west of
Gatesville where they are actively
engaged in ranching.
GUS E. LECHOW ('56) received
B.S. degree in agriculture from
Texas Tech and Texas A&M. Is
currently living in Marble Falls
where he is teaching mathematics
in Marble Falls Junior High. He
and his wife, Marie, have three
children, Lance, Larry, and Coy.WARREN R. OLSON ('58)
received associate degree from
Tarleton and B.A. from
Hardin-Simmons University. Is
currently involved in farming near
Avoca. Served two years on active
duty as Ist lieutenant in Germany
and five years in Army Reserve in
Civil Affairs as a captain.
VIRGIL EDGAR LILLEY ('59) is
Ordnance officer with U.S. Army
at Kaiserslautern Army Depot in
Germany. Will become
commander of 122d Maintenance
Battalion, 3rd Army Division at
Hanau, Germany in January.
Received ag education degree
from Texas A&M and M.A. from
Pacific Lutheran University in
sociology. He and his wife, Laura
Sue, have two children, Heather,
and Stewart.
DALE PARMER ('41) was
honored recently with a
retirement dinner in San Saba. He
was a resident of Lometa and had
taught junior high math in San
Saba for 28 years. He graduated
from Lometa High School in 1939
and attended Tarleton, North
Texas State, and University of
Texas at Austin.
JAMES K. CAMMACK ('51) is a
rural mail carrier in Brazoria. He
and his wife, Isabella, have three
children, Mildred, Charlene, and
Michael. James is active in the
local baseball program and is
umpiring at the high school and
college level. He also works in the
state rural carriers association.
DAVID NEWMAN ('52)
completed his work at the
University of Texas and is vice
president of North Park National
Bank in Dallas involved in
personnel, marketing, and
purchasing. He is part-time
instructor at Dallas County
Community College, and is
involved in Boy Scouts, YMCA,
PTA, and his church. He and his
wife, Ann, have two children,
Dave, and Jim.
GREG McKENZIE ('53) finished
undergraduate work at Sul Ross
State University and also received
master's degree from Sul Ross. Is
presently high school science
teacher at Ft. Stocktonand is also
involved in cattle and sheep
ranching. In 1973 was selected by
fellow teachers as outstanding
teacher in Ft. Stockton school
system. Active in Lions Club,
Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Sheep
and Goat Raisers Association, and
is elder in First Presbyterian
Church. He and his wife, Lou Ann
(Lowry), have two children,
Marsha Kay, and Melanie lone.
PAT WHITAKER GARDNER
('61) received her B.S. degree from
Mary Hardin-Baylor. Is high
school business teacher in
Overton. Member of Texas
Professional Educators, Texas
Business Education Association,
National Business Education
Association, and Delta Kappa
Gamma Society International. She
and husband, Charles, also former
Tarleton student, have one
daughter, Melissa.DAVID CHARLES GARMS ('58)
is chemist-engineer with Hybrid
Micro-electronics Dept., Collins
Radio Group, Rockwell
International in Richardson.
Received bachelor's degree in
chemistry from Texas Christian
University and master's in liberal
arts from Southern Methodist
University. He and his wife, Judy,
have two children, Debra, and
Kennon.
EDGAR F. (CHICK) CARTER
('56) is head salesman for M & M
Sales and Equipment in Odessa
involved in oil operations. He and
his wife, Jane (Bennett), have two
children, Victoria, and Bennett.
Member of First Christian Church
and former deacon. Served as
superintendent of Sandhill Stock
Show and has worked with
youngsters involved in showing
sheep. Owns a farm at Roby
where family plans to move in the
future.
GEORGE THOMPSON ('32) has
been named chairman of the West
Texas Chamber of Commerce
Local Action Committee for the
coming year. Thompson is a
graduate of Sweetwater High
School and operates a
realtor-appraiser and real estate
brokerage business in Sweetwater.
He has been highly active in
service and civic work in
Sweetwater for the past 36 years.
He has served as chairman of the
city planning commission 20 years
and on the board of adjustments
for more than 30 years.
Thompson has been president of
the local Lions club and on the
district cabinet five terms. He was
also Lions district governor,
president of the Sweetwater
Shrine Club, and active in Boy
Scouts.
MIKE BERGMAN ('74) has been
appointed instructor of
agriculture at Weatherford
College. Mike was Corps
Commander at Tarleton and
graduated with a commission in
U.S. Army. He was also football
captain. After leaving active duty
he received a master's in
agricultural education. He taught
at Uvalde three years prior to
accepting the Weatherford College
position.
CAROLYN J. CODY ('67) was
named principal of J. N. Long
elementary school in Cleburne
effective Aug. I. She is only the
second woman principal of a
Cleburne School. Carolyn
graduated from Wichita Falls High
School and received her master's
degree from Texas Woman's
University. She previously taught
in the Coleman elementary school
and was supervisor of the Special
Education Cooperative for
Johnson and Somervell counties.
Carolyn and her husband, Jeff,
have two children, Donnie, and
Janet.
TIM FAILS ('76) is the new band
director at Clyde. Tim was at
Gorman one year prior to
accepting the position at Clyde.THOMAS N. CLEMENS ('75) has
been appointed assistant vice
president and loan officer at
Pittsburg National Bank. Herwas
formerly with the First National
Bank at Memphis. Clemens also
has ranching interests at Pittsburg.
He has won over 40 grand and
reservebchampionships and over
100 blue ribbons showing
registered Polled Hereford cattle.
ROBERT LANGFORD ('67) has
joined the Stephens County Soil
Conservation Service at
Breckenridge. He was at the Texas
Agricultural Experiment Station
at Sinton two years prior to
accepting the Breckenridge
position. Langford and his wife,
Pat have two children, Lisa, 8, and
Brandi, 5.
DR. NEIL M. BERRY ('72) is one
of two doctors opening a new
medical clinic in Jacksboro and
joining the Jack County Hospital
medical staff. Dr. Berry is a
graduate of Jacksboro High
School and received a B.S. degree
from Tarleton. He and his wife,
the former Elsie Ann Lake of
Crockett, have two children,
Skipper, 7, and Shellye, 5.
WALTER BRYAN ('53) is the
new assistant superintendent for
administration and personnel for
the Abilene public schools. Bryan
graduated from Olney High
School and played football at
Tarleton and Texas Tech where he
received his degree. He was coach
and teacher at' Plainview and
Olton before entering
administration at Hereford. He
was superintendent at Baird,
assistant superintendent at San
Marcos, and assistant
superintendent at Temple prior to
moving to Abilene.
DARWIN G. McKINISH ('59)
received associate degree in
science and is now a disabled
veteran living in Strawn.
JEFF HOLLADAY ('62)
co-editor of the J-TAC in 1962,
has been named information chief
for the Oklahoma Department of
Agriculture. He was formerly
associated with newspapers in the
Texas Panhandle and was
associate editor of the Oklahoma
City Oklahoman's Sunday
Magazine before assuming his
present position. Holladay has
won several awards for writing in
state competition and recently
received a regional award
presented by the Aviation-Space
Writers Association and a bronze
award in the newspaper category
of a national health journalism
contest. Holiday is a native of
Hico and graduated from UT-El
Paso in 1964. He and his wife,
Tish, live in Norman, OK. and
have one son, Jody.
ELVIS E. GILBREATH ('23) has
retired in Jacksboro after a career
in teaching, administration and
employment manager for the
Celanese Plant in Bishop. He
married Lillie Phillips of Dublin,
also a teacher, and they have one
son, John Philip who is teaching
in Jacksboro, and three
grandchildren. Gilbreath was with
Celanese 21 years and taught two
years before retiring completely
